Summary

The Disability Determination Social Security Administration Adjudicative Assistant is responsible for providing administrative support to assist adjudicative staff in processing Social Security disability claims. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Functions

Serves as the contact representative for questions involving: claims status, changes in medical or mental sources, the disability determination adjudication process, the necessity of completing various forms, and requests for rescheduling of mental and physical examinations. Records contact made with: claimants, employers, medical, and mental sources, attorneys, doctors, and local federal Social Security offices, to obtain clarification or further information relating to current and prior physical or mental treatment, work history, and the claimants' ability to appear for scheduled appointments.

Performs duties related to electronic file maintenance that include scanning and purging case file materials. Assists claimants with the completion of various program forms including information relating to a claimant's work history, activities of daily living, and pain. May serve as a lead worker by providing training and guidance to other employees, establishing work plans and timeframes, and assigning and reviewing work. Performs other duties as assigned.

Ability to learn Social Security disability rules and regulations and procedures to process Social Security disability cases. Ability to learn medical terminology, procedures, anatomy, and disease processes. Ability to organize and present oral and written information. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with others.

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education of a high school diploma, plus four years of administrative support experience in human service programs or a related field. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. Starting salary of $39,999.86, which is non-negotiable. Current State Employees will have their salary adjusted to $39,999.86 regardless of their tenure, current pay grade or current salary. Start Date: Tuesday, September 7, 2021 New Hires will go through a 2-year Training & Mentoring Program. Following the satisfactory completion of the 12-month probation period, the salary increases by 5% and following the satisfactory completion of the 24-month probation period, the salary increases to $45,000. Additional advancement is available through competitive promotions. Minimum qualifications is a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. The Bachelor's Degree CANNOT be substituted. To be considered for employment, qualified applicants will have to sit for a written examination. Applicants that meet the cut-off score will be scheduled for an interview that will likely take place the following week. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy. Functions Gathers information for Social Security disability claims by requesting further medical records and other relevant physical or mental evidence from acceptable sources. Summarizes medical and non-medical evidence to describe information that relates to medical or mental impairment criteria, as established in the Social Security Listings of Impairments for program eligibility. Determines whether case evidence and documentation is sufficient to justify allowing or denying a social security disability claim. Schedules claimants for various mental or physical examinations so that cases may be fully developed to the point where a decision can be made. Obtains vocational information from claimants and former employers to write vocational analyses to assess whether claimants can return to past relevant work or the claimants have the capacity to perform other work based on physical and mental restrictions. Consults with agency medical and psychological staff to arrive at a determination and to obtain residual functional assessment (i.e. the highest level of work related physical, mental, and/or social demands the claimant can be expected to perform).
