General Purpose of the Position:

This position is primarily responsible to ensure smooth daily operations and with quality in mind, coordinating internal and external resources required to complete maintenance of the physical and environmental critical infrastructure; including power, environmental, communications, and facilities. This person will be responsible to ensure Switch client equipment installations are installed in compliance with the companys Acceptable Use Policy (AUP), this person is required to work with clients collaboratively and creatively to resolve problems and reach the most effective solution for the client and Switch. The expectation for DCO Systems is to hold accountable to company policy, department processes and procedures, and national safety regulations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position carries out manager responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Managers responsibilities include, but are not limited to: training; planning, assigning, delegating, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and resolving employee issues. The manager shall operate as mentor to DCO Systems Technicians, supporting their development and leadership abilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for and maintain 100% critical systems uptime; 24-7 On-call and/or MOD duties when qualified and designated; Respond to all off hour and emergency calls

  • Support the VPs in fostering a positive Switch Culture aligned with the core leadership vision

  • Attend designated meetings and operational reviews to streamline communication; promote team achievement and performance development through innovation, R&D, represent DCO organization

  • Lead by example and provide daily leadership to onsite technician team; find creative ways to inform, encourage and influence employees to ensure morale remains high

  • Build and maintain technician schedule providing required coverage for each site

  • In the absence of assigned facility leader, provide facility leadership, technical and scheduling assistance to other facilities

  • Assist with budget planning and decisions

  • Manage facility infrastructure projects; providing coordination and support for construction, research, and development activity

  • Responsible for delivering exceptional service and continuous improvement of the data center operation; lead all maintenance activities in accordance with Switch Safety Policy and Procedures

  • Conduct performance reviews; evaluate performance and make recommendations for individual improvements; participate in review boards for promotions

  • Coordinate maintenance and access with clients that have special requirements; manage customer requests through to completion; establish and promote professional relationships between DCO Systems and Switch clients

  • Use of CMMS to track maintenance activities-validating facility health

  • Actively participate in department process, development and implementation committees; develop initiatives to drive continuous improvement of the DCO organization

  • Create, review, approve, and support all procedures and scripts used to conduct maintenance on critical infrastructure, safety programs, and OSHA compliance to ensure a safe work environment for all

  • Update and maintain training documents; oversee scheduling for promotion testing

  • Train and support creation of P3 events in Ops Genie; call into bridge lines for escalated events (generally P2 and above) to provide updates and coordinate onsite response and resolution

  • Assist with division recruitment and coordination with recruiting agencies and effective development of the Systems team

  • Actively use the asset management systems, tracking software, and applicable building management systems

  • Submit work-orders through Change Advisory Board (CAB) to approve and create maintenance windows

  • Review, approve, and request POs for parts and services; approve invoices after maintenance work has been verified

  • Purchase, track and maintain onsite tools and equipment

  • Collect, review and organize documentation for annual audits and customer requests

  • Solicit proposals for outsourced work

  • Manage vendor relationships; work with vendors and contractors to ensure their work meets Switch standards; participate in monthly task log reviews and discuss performance

  • Enter vendor information into the portal; compliance with vendor orientation and company orientation; manage vendor performed work and services from scheduling to completion and reporting

Required Job Skills:

  • Advanced understanding of electrical and mechanical systems that may be employed in a data center environment. This may include electrical feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, power systems, ATS/STS units, PDU/RPP units, air handling units, cooling towers, pumping, and fire suppression systems;

  • Ability to interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and electrical drawings (blueprints/CAD)

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to analyze and make suggestions for problem resolution

  • Solve problems with good initiative and sound judgment

  • Make decisions independently with minimal supervision

  • Must work well under pressure

  • Must remain flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient

  • High level of professionalism and confidentiality

Computer Equipment and Software:

  • Microsoft Suite: Must have strong Outlook, Publisher, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills

Education and Experience:

Certification: OSHA 30, additional certifications relevant to job field

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred or equivalent experience

Experience: 3 years management experience in production, facilities, electrical, or mechanical

Physical Demands:

The data center is 24/7/365 operation. This position requires the ability to work effectively under pressure, multi-task and manage multiple projects simultaneously. This person may be required to work extended hours during peak work periods.
