Our IT department is seeking a DBA Director to join our growing team in our Worcester, MA office.
The DBA Director is responsible for leading a team who manage all database platforms and administration efforts in support of project teams, enterprise strategies, and business initiatives. This is a Full-time, Exempt role.
Critical skills required to support business needs will include database and warehousing designs, creation of database computing environments, recommending and implementation of strategic initiatives, definition of common set of practices, procedures and methodologies, ongoing support / performance tuning, tool evaluation/selection, secured access methods, storage monitoring, and business continuity / disaster recovery procedures.
Direct management of all Database Administrators and alignment to the Enterprise Application Services organization
Leading a team that is responsible for overall database support, database architecture planning, design and DB optimization and recovery strategy for Oracle, SQL, DB2-Distributed (UDB), DB2 Mainframe, and Progress DB current and evolving Hanover database environment
Definition and implementation of best practices to ensure optimal performance, scalability, stability, and security for all database technologies
Develop processes and alerting to proactively monitor mission critical databases
Continually assessing the capacity and resource utilization of databases
Provide methodologies to ensure data integrity, consistency, and quality through continuous operational monitoring and audits.
Support Cloud Migration innovation and strategy and progression to cloud
Responsible for staying abreast of future database technologies and releases
Responsible for monitoring and reporting of scalability of database capacity planning
Must possess a broad knowledge of data architecture, data replication / warehousing, information access methods, database connectivity, performance monitoring and tuning
Demonstrate the ability to translate business requirements into optimally performing databases
Must be proficient in the use of database administrative and design tools
Overall support and management providing out-of-hours support for project and business needs
Provide design logic to other Database Administrators for the development of database management standards, policies, and procedures
Promoting the principles of database resource management and promoting database sharing and reuse of databases
Overall definition and support of logical and physical data models and ensuring that data models are consistent with the enterprise
Developing and recommending designs for data architecture framework based on physical data model
Adhering to enterprise designs and supporting all components of enterprise databases, including the data warehouse
Implementing upgrades, installations and new features in conformance with standards and business needs
Conducting data access optimization and resource utilization feasibility studies for proposed systems and modifications to existing systems.
Providing technical advice to other Database Administrators to ensure optimization and utilization at the business unit level
Working with clients and IT management to determine business data intelligence and infrastructure needs
Troubleshoots and communicates database issues to stakeholders in an accurate and timely manner
Establishing audit procedures to ensure data integrity and performance
Developing service-level metrics and measures for corporate database management systems
Manage Change Control for instance management and patch application
Ensure change management best practices are enforced for all DBA related activities and technologies
Partnering with Portfolio management and business units to drive technical debt reduction through database upgrades
License management and ensuring self-auditing for compliance
Providing technical expertise and guidance in implementing data security information programs and administration of security tools.
Working with vendors to resolve problems and apply software upgrades and fixes
Defining Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery procedures ensuring swift recovery of any lost data.
Requires 5+ years' experience, working with various database management systems in database design, testing, implementation, maintenance and administration
Bachelor's degree in programming / systems or computer science, or specialized training, certification or equivalent work experience
Excellent verbal, written and group communication skills.
