Daycare Assistant

Location: Aspen Elementary
Reports to: Principal
Supervises: None

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or actively seeking
CPR/First Aid Certificate
Prefer work experience in child care center operations including a good knowledge of infant and daycare techniques.
Must have or willing to acquire an understanding of daycare center facilities including knowledge of safe and appropriate activities for children, relevant legislation, policies and procedures to ensure that children are supervised and safe at all times, and financial management.
Organizational skills, able to multitask, be self-motivated, collaborate with teams, and able to work independently.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to maintain confidentiality in matters of student, parent, and staff information.

POSITION SUMMARY
To supervise and care for children in the district day care.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Actively supervise and monitor the safety of children in the center
Prepare and organize snacks for children
Help children keep good hygiene
Change the diapers of infants and toddlers
Organize toys and materials to ensure a tidy activity area
Sterilize bottles and prepare formulas
Wash toys and play equipment
Motivate children to pick-up toys and books after activity
Organize activities that allow children to explore interests in age appropriate manner
Follow schedules and routines to ensure that children have enough physical activity, rest, and playtime
Watch for signs of emotional or developmental problems in children and bring the problems to the attention of supervisor
Keep records of children's progress, routines, and interest as assigned.
Other duties as assigned.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as policies and regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine correspondence.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

EVALUATION
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of certified or classified personnel.

SALARY SCHEDULE
This position will be paid according to the approved Classified Student Support Wage Schedule.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Student School Year +5 days, unless otherwise assigned by supervisor.

CLEARANCES
Employment is contingent on a local, state, and federal criminal background clearance.
