Position Description & Details

Bismarck State College is seeking a dedicated and reliable Day Food Service Worker who can turn up the heat and keep our operations running smoothly. Key Responsibilities:

Assists with the Operation of Food Service

  • Wash dishes, operate the dishwasher, and ensure all clean dishes are put away.

  • Maintain cleanliness of the dishwasher and dish room.

  • Ensure adequate supplies are available and replenished for the next shift.

  • Assist with stocking coolers and freezers.

  • Clean and sanitize the work area.

  • Operate various kitchen and cleaning equipment.

  • Ensure compliance with all sanitation, safety, and security rules.

  • Follow Sanitation and HACCP programs, including documenting food and serving temperatures.

  • Maintain serving stations at proper temperatures.

Assists with Food Preparation, Set Up, and Serving

  • Assist cooks in preparing meals for all stations.

  • Prepare and set up the serving line, assist in serving, and maintain adequate food supplies.

  • Support the preparation, set up, serving, and cleanup of banquets, special dinners, or events.

  • 1-33% - Reach with hands and arms, stoop/kneel/crouch, crawl, climb or balance, or lift to 50 pounds.

Minimum Requirements

  • Work experience in a food service operation.

  • Requires high school diploma or GED.

  • Ability to operate various kitchen equipment and cleaning equipment.

  • Ability to follow communicated instructions and to work independently after instructions.

  • Good interpersonal and customer service skills and common courtesy in working relationships with students, employees, and the public.

  • Basic computer skills - e-mail and electronic calendar (Outlook).

  • Requires some evening and weekend hours.

  • Must observe established health and safety requirements of a food service operation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of work experience in a food service operation with working knowledge of methods of cooking and preparing foods.
