Davidson Outdoors Temporary Outdoor Odyssey Support

Davidson Outdoors Temporary Program Assistant supports the Outdoor Odyssey program. This includes involvement in training and development of Outdoors Odyssey trip leaders, providing instruction in specific outdoor skills to DO leaders, and organizing and conducting TL debriefs. This also includes involvement in Outdoor Odyssey logistics specifically, coordinating food purchasing and organizing, equipment and vehicle logistics. The program assistant is central in building and supporting the Outdoor Odyssey summer TL community, and serves as a liaison between the DO program staff and the trip leaders.

Responsibilities:

• Manage reservations for rooms in the Union and at Guest House

• Manage online registrations and cancellations

• Travel plans/stipends

• Dietary Restrictions

• Equipment Requests

• Financial aid

• Billing

• Collect & file participants' medical forms and waivers

• Correspondence with parents and incoming students

• Gear and food inventory

• Purchase any needed items

• Run miscellaneous reports for trip leaders in Kuali

• Communicate with CCE Service Odyssey

• Work check-in table first day of each session

Knowledge Skills and Training:

• Background in outdoor leadership

• Knowledge of generally accepted practices in outdoor education

• Solid computer skills including competence with Google Docs, Sheets, Forms

• Commitment to student development, leadership and teamwork

• Excellent oral and written communication skills

Requirements:

• Approved college HOV driver with valid license

• Has completed DO TLT

• Has completed DO WIT

• Current certification at the Wilderness First Aid level or higher.

• Current CPR certification

Environmental and physical demands:

• Hiking and backpacking are integral parts of the job. Employee must be able to lift and carry loads of up to 50lbs over 5 to 10 miles per day

• Job entails prolonged periods outdoors, including exposure to inclement weather, toxic plants and wildlife

• Job occasionally requires use of solvents, adhesives and petroleum fuels
