Database Engineer

The Database team at Jump Trading is responsible for all aspects of data, including loading, curating, refinement, warehousing, replication, reporting, reconciliation, optimization and backup. The team manages data architecture, database servers, the data warehouse, replication, ETL and reporting tools and is also heavily involved with software development, design and testing.

Customers of the database team include all groups within the firm : clearing, compliance, accounting, trading, core development, reporting teams, QA and management.The team is currently seeking a Database Engineer who has extensive experience with more than one RDBMS platform, knowledge of database design, performance and optimization, data warehousing,experience with application development and automation and an eagerness to dive into new technologies.

What you'll do:

  • Develop data architecture, modeling, and ETL mapping solutions for a warehouse environment with consistency and integrity using data from many disparate sources

  • Automate the capturing of statistical data about large numbers of queries/users/database objects/computing infrastructure. Identify bottlenecks and create solutions for them

  • Develop solutions on a very large scale transaction processing system

  • Research and upgrade our existing databases and build new data warehouses

  • Work alongside both business and technical teams to tackle challenging problems with efficient and creative technical solutions

  • Monitor the databases to ensure optimal availability and performance

  • Weekend and off hours on call schedule

Skills you'll need:

  • 5+ years of database development experience (MySQL / MariaDB / Percona, SAP ASE or MS SQL, SAP IQ)

  • 5+ years of database administration skills on Unix/Linux

  • Proficiency with SQL including stored procedures

  • Experience with data loading, transformation, extraction, profiling, reporting and analytical tools to develop accurate reporting and analysis in order to facilitate data driven decisions for the company.

  • Scripting experience, Python preferred, Shell in a Linux environment and ability to automate recurring tasks

  • Data warehousing experience; Worked with large data sets and handled performance tuning

  • Experience with BI and ETL tools

  • BS/MS in Computer Science or related field

  • Industry experience in finance/trading

  • Supporting post-trade processing systems

  • Designing large scale BPM/Workflow/eCommerce solutions

  • High Availability, Database Scalability

  • Python, pandas, matplotlib

  • Object oriented language such as Java, Go, C++

  • Open source software and databases

  • Kafka experience

  • MPP Databases (Redshift, Greenplum, ...)

  • Amazon Aurora or Google CloudSQL, Cloud experience
