Job Description:

We are seeking a mid-level Database Developer to join our Navy Readiness Reporting Enterprise (NRRE) systems engineering team in Norfolk, VA!

You will be joining an active team with a great culture of collaboration. As a key member of our team, you will be Responsible for taking the lead on major database development tasks, as well as mentoring and coaching your development peers. Your contributions will be instrumental in our team's success.

This team develops and administers a data warehouse that uniquely fuses U.S. Navy readiness information from over one hundred diverse sources into a single database structure. Using this data, we are constantly designing and engineering how we present our data as our customer's request. You must be a self-starter and a great problem solver with a willingness to use your expertise, share it and learn new technologies.

This position offers a unique opportunity to mentor and lead others, supporting their development and contributing to the growth of the team. This role requires providing technical and team leadership, as well as mentoring others to support their development.

Responsibilities include:

• Participating in scheduled team meetings, and assessment of requirements for database development needs.

• Database project solution structure, configuration management, source code, and documentation

• Designing, implementing and maintaining database structures to support Web Software application data retention needs, including support for database unit testing, installation, and modification.

• Executing technical vision with Tech Lead, Solution Architect, and other team developers.

• Requires strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to express ideas and design benefits/drawbacks to a technical and non-technical audience

Here's what you need:

• At least 4 years of professional experience administering, designing and developing database systems, preferably data warehousing solutions

• 4+ years of experience with schema design (relationships, discovery, and normalization), query optimization, T-SQL, Stored procedures, triggers, and indexing

• Experienced with shell scripting such as PowerShell, bash, or zsh

• Knowledge of version control software, especially Git and Azure Repos

• Familiarity with object-oriented programming in languages such as C# or .NET (ideal) or, Java or Scala (a plus, but not required).

Bonus points if you have:

• Cognos BI administration and report building a plus, but not required

• Knowledgeable of big data technologies, especially Spark and Hadoop.

• Hadoop/HDFS & Spark maintenance and management.

• Cognos BI administration and report building

Security clearance

• Eligibility to obtain a DoD-issued, secret-level security clearance is required.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or related discipline preferred.
• 4-7 years of experience in the information technology field or in a related area.
