DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR (DBA) SENIOR (TEMPORARY - 3 MONTH ASSIGNMENT)

Position Description

As a Database Administrator (DBA) Senior, you will be responsible to transform data environments; this includes supporting the implementation of our cloud strategy on Azure and getting our on-premises databases configured for long term success. You will be responsible for functions associated with the efficient design, implementation and maintenance of Azure SQL MI and Microsoft SQL Server databases. Analyze business application requirements and develop specifications for database construction and maintenance with the understanding of when to implement an Azure solution versus on-premises. Responsible for database modeling, normalization, and vendor interfaces. Maintain and document all production databases and interface systems and resolves database performance problems. Interact with others to develop database solutions to business problems. Responsible for the design and building of tables, relationships, stored procedures and triggers. Work in either a waterfall or agile methodology. You are a member of a team where you will participate in a variety of roles and these roles will be determined based on work initiatives and IT leader direction.

  • Plan and coordinate the activities related to running production environments utilizing MS SQL Server for both on-premises and Azure databases.
  • Create and maintain MS SQL Server databases that reside on-premises and on Azure.
  • Install, configure, trouble-shoot MS SQL database systems on Windows servers and on Azure.
  • Plan and coordinate the development of test and training and project related database environments.
  • Plan and design database physical structure to accommodate large transaction volume and high availability.
  • Perform database and application monitoring and tuning to ensure databases run at peak performance. Troubleshooting of performance issues.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of database security policy.
  • Collaborate with developers to implement Stored Procedures and Views.
  • Provide solutions for database sizing and capacity planning, server requirements and space requirements.
  • Collaborate with System Engineers group to design, implement and test enterprise backup and recovery solution, including Disaster Recovery initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Application Development and Systems Engineer groups to implement/integrate Active Directory, LDAP and/or DHCP solutions.
  • Collaborate with the Networks Services and Applications Development groups to ensure the platforms are robust enough to support the needs of the databases.
  • Review new database programs, functions, procedures, and packages before they are loaded to production database.
  • Upgrade and patch databases and systems as requested.
  • Perform database mirroring, replication and support data loading, conversion and batch job operation and do troubleshooting of development/production system.
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform software improvements and upgrades.
  • Mentor less experienced DBAs.
  • Provide recommendations on new database technologies to management.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned.
