Position Summary & Responsibilities:
Position Summary:
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) accepting applications to fill an IT Database Administrator position. This position is a specialized Information Technology position that requires prior experience. Dependent on the experience level of the selected candidate, some of the duties involved in database administration at the KBI will include;
Implementation and maintenance of complex SQL database solutions used for the electronic collection, storage and dissemination of information belonging to the KBI and the Kansas Criminal Justice Information System (KCJIS);
Implementation and maintenance of data structures;
Monitoring and implementation of routines for the security and transport of data;
Ensuring consistent backups are conducted;
Installing patches and new versions of database software
Supporting a variety of database oriented systems.
The position will have daily contact with KBI administrative personnel, project management, application development and technical staff. There is continuous contact with supervisors and employees of other units involved in the criminal justice functions of the bureau for information and data integrity.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Implement and maintain agency databases using best practice and KBI standards and procedures. Maintain and test database backup and restore procedures. Coordinate data storage requirements to sustain each application's functionality.
Review requested database changes and possible issues with application developers, users and project management to coordinate the implementation of changes and to correct identified issues. Estimate work and risks of proposed changes and modifications.
Maintain and monitor interfaces, internal databases, and external database interfaces.
Monitor the database management systems, including database growth and database maintenance procedures to proactively identify and correct possible issues.
Monitor system performance and help identify and implement performance and tuning changes to provide effective and efficient information storage and processing systems.
Coordinate with program leads to design and maintain data quality checks, and reports, for critical data elements of key databases.
Research and review database system upgrades. Maintain knowledge of database server systems to help ensure proper planning for application upgrades, projects and other changes.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
Two years' experience designing/analyzing, coding, testing, debugging database programs or system software programming and analysis
Experience working with common database administration tools (SQL Management Studio, Red Gate).
Advanced knowledge of the implementation and maintenance of Microsoft SQL Server.
Experience working with the design and management of databases within Microsoft SQL Server, including backup and recovery procedures.
Experience working with Transact-SQL data manipulation language.
Knowledge of relational database concepts and data migration concepts.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience within a criminal justice system.
Experience with Microsoft Excel and Access
Experience with common SQL reporting tools
Knowledge of complex data indexing systems and management
Knowledge of master data management (MDM) concepts and design
Experience with non-relational database management systems
Knowledge of database normalization and de-normalization concepts and techniques
Successful completion of 24 hours in computer science coursework
