If you are an efficient problem solver with highly tuned decision making skills, this may be the position for you. What you get to do every single day

  • Install, configure, and maintain all SQL Server instances across development, staging, and production environments.

  • Ensure database server topology, configuration, and maintenance are designed and executed to meet SLA objectives.

  • Advise on database design, tuning options, and other potential issues.

  • Fix SQL Server service outages as they occur, including after hours and weekends.

  • Configure SQL Server monitoring utilities to minimize false alarms.

  • Baseline system performance and monitor for deviation, recommending and implementing improvements to slow running queries.

  • When performance issues arise, you'll figure out the most effective way to increase performance including hardware purchases, server configuration changes, or index/query changes.

Requirements
What you bring to the role ? Bachelor's Degree and 4+ years database experience. ? Strong knowledge of SQL Server. ? Experience tuning queries to improve performance. ? Previous experience in production environments and being on-call. ? Experience building and maintaining documentation. ? Storage and server hardware knowledge a plus.

We're looking for a Database Engineer to join our growing team. You'll be responsible for creating and maintaining open source datastores such as MySQL, Postgres, and Redis. You'll get to design automated, flexible systems capable of scaling to meet the growing demand of the database platform. You'll provide guidance on schema design, query optimization, and learn the detailed data requirements of New Relic products. As a part of the Database team, you'll be working with engineers who build and support everything from the network to deployment infrastructure in a fast-paced environment where things change rapidly, and where we're constantly increasing our scale. We believe in using automation to increase reliability and efficiency, so you'll have the opportunity to use your programming skills to automate the administration of our database systems. Some examples of what you'll be working on are: * Building a database platform that provides teams with self-service database provisioning tools, allowing them to rapidly request and start using new databases * Developing tools in Go to automate the operation (server and database provisioning, backups, fail-overs, monitoring, etc.) of our Dockerized database infrastructure to reduce possibilities for manual error and increase team efficiency * Assisting in the creation, administration, and monitoring of MySQL, Postgres, and Redis * Supporting development teams in building features that perform at scale * Investigating database tuning settings and query changes needed to improve performance, availability, and reliability You could be right for the job if: * You have 4+ years experience working in DBA or system administration roles * You have real-world experience administering MySQL, Postgres, and/or Redis in production * You are proficient in using Go, Python and/or Ruby to automate system-level tasks (the team has standardized on Go for tool development) * You are comfortable with Linux administration (we use CoreOS and some CentOS) * You have experience using Ansible, Chef, Puppet or other configuration management tools * You have experience in an operational role performing system administration and DevOps tasks to support database systems running on Linux servers Nice to Have: * Experience in some or all of the following areas: * Docker container deployments and administration * Load balancers (F5, HAProxy) and virtual IP's for network routing * Using JavaScript, HTML and web frameworks to build web apps for administrative tools Interested?
