Job Description:

Perform daily database administration against DB2 databases, including software installations and patching, backup and recovery, database refreshes, database maintenance tasks and problem resolution.

The position provides 24X7 production support, and therefore may include weekend and holiday hours.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Database Administration support for DB2 for z/OS, v11 or later.

  • Overall maintenance, administration, monitoring, problem resolution for DB2 databases

  • Database data refreshes

  • Backup & Recovery

  • Support of high availability databases

  • Database performance and tuning

  • SQL query optimization and tuning

  • Documentation development and maintenance

  • Database and data security / RACF

  • Production support 24x7, with an on-call rotation

Minimum Requirements (Requirements that are essential for performing the job):

  • 5+ experience as a DB2 Database Administrator

  • Strong understanding of IBM z/OS Mainframe Technologies

  • Experience with at least 1 programming language

  • Strong SQL skills

  • Experience with JCL and ISPF

Desired Qualifications:

  • Mainframe software upgrade / migration experience, using SMP/E

  • Experience using IBM DB2 Tools, Omegamon monitoring

  • Experience with other database technologies


  • Bachelors Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Math, Engineering or equivalent work experience.

The qualified individual will be responsible for the day-to-day monitoring, escalation and/or resolution of problems and issues pertaining to the Mainframe, AS400, Server / Distributed, Cloud, Batch and Network environments for the 24x7x365 IT Operations Center (ITOC). The incumbent will require knowledge of monitoring systems such as Solarwinds, BSM, Datadog, etc. Working knowledge of Linux and/or Windows operating systems will be needed. The candidate should have experience with maintaining and resolving issues via command line prompts. Knowledge of RDBMS systems such as MySQL and SQL a positive as well. Able to use configuration tools such as Chef, Puppet and Salt. Understanding of load balancing and high availability architectures in an Operation's environment. Knowledge of TCP/IP networking and DNS, LDAP, NFS and SMTP. In addition, the qualified candidate would be expected to have an knowledge and the ability to perform at a high level in the areas of writing and effectively presenting presentations, status reports, technical diagrams, flowcharts and metrics creation and presentation through Power BI, ability to use problem techniques such as root cause analysis to resolve issues, logging, monitoring and event management correlation and resolution, Change Management, Incident Management and support and the ability to review events for patterns and address root cause. Also, architect infrastructure solutions using both Linux/Unix and Windows with specific recommendations on server, load balancing, HA/DR and storage architectures. Ability to understand overall system design to ensure integrity is maintained, proactively maintain the health of all environments the ITOC monitors and be available as part of an oncall team maintaining 24x7 availability of all ITOC functions. Minimum Requirements/Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree with major in Computer Science Engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited university or will substitute for a minimum of 3 years' experience in an IT Operations support role (Command Center Operations, Network Operations Center, Server Operations, Service Desk, etc.) performing hands-on IT Infrastructure & Application troubleshooting and resolution. * Certificates of Azure 533 and/or AWS System Ops Administrator desired. * Experience with Enterprise Management tools. * Experience in a large Internet environment. * Experience maintaining the health of the cloud environment. * Experience working with enterprise application and database architecture a bonus. * Experience in automated pipeline build, continuous integration and continuous deployment. * Experience troubleshooting Level 1 and Level 2 issues before handing over to a SME for expert level assistance. * Knowledge of ServiceNow. * Understanding and working of problems based on SLA's defined or of known or perceived criticality of an issue in absence of a defined SLA. * Good grasp of fundamental security concepts. * Ability to perform basic administrative tasks such as unlocking user accounts, creating new users, giving access control, resolving network related issues, space management, resource management and resolving locks around resources. * Ability to perform basic backup and recovery tasks. * Ability to provide incident management summary to all levels of management. * Ability to provide temporary work around and fixes until the issue is resolved permanently. * Ability write and present effectively to all levels of management reports, presentations, metrics, etc. * Ability to think strategically about business, products and technical challenges. * Willingness and ability to work overtime / alternate shifts as needed and possibly with short notice. * Must be reliable and dependable; flexible to changing shifts to ensure proper staff coverage during planned / unplanned absences or special business processing times such as Quarter End / Year End. * Ability to follow implicit instructions when needed but also use experience/working knowledge to "think outside the box" when solving issues.
