POSITION INFORMATION: The Database Administrator is responsible for maintaining databases by identifying database requirements, maintaining backups and managing data security. The DBA will perform day-to-day SQL maintenance, code migrations for developers, assist analysts with tuning and monitor database performance. The DBA will consolidate databases to main SQL servers and terminate unnecessary SQL instances on network servers. The DBA Level 2 works independently and relies on knowledge of database best practices.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Designs, administers and maintains databases and servers of medium to high complexity.

  • Plan, implement and maintain database backup and recovery infrastructure in a way that meets the business units Recovery Point Objectives (RPO).

  • Implement Index maintenance strategy.

  • Monitor database security.

  • Plan and install SQL Servers, including configuration of Always-On or another failover clustering.

  • Tuning T-SQL queries, views and procedures to improve performance.

  • Monitor and maintain SQL Server Business Intelligence servers such as Integration Services (SSIS), Analysis Service (SSAS) and Report Server (SSRS).

  • Uses IT approved ticketing system and change management processes.

  • Implements and administers policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of company data.

  • Conduct appropriate functional and performance testing to identify bottlenecks and data quality issues.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Ability to perform all Level 1 DBA Duties:

  • Manage, monitor and maintain company databases.

  • Ensure database integrity, stability and availability.

  • Troubleshoot SQL server issues including performance, capacity, connectivity and outages.

  • Maintains database backup and recovery infrastructure.

  • Test restoring backups to ensure we can meet the business unit's Recovery Time Objectives (RTO).

  • Maintain database security to control which company users and accounts have access to Protected Health Information (PHI).

  • Import and export data in accordance with company policies and procedures.

  • Update and modify database structure and data according to change control procedures.

  • Document the database environment with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's).

  • Work with Network Administrators and web developers to establish and maintain data connections.

  • Complete database projects on an as-needed basis.

  • Responsible for logging and security protocols to assure data security and meet HIPAA, security and minimum necessary standards.

Education and Experience: Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Healthcare, or related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience. 2 years' of experience will be considered equivalent to an Associate's Degree.

Experience Preference: 3 years experience in MS SQL Server Administration; Healthcare IT preferred. MS SQL Server certification and Epic Clarity DBA Certification preferred

Licensure/Certifications/Registrations Required:

  • MCSA: SQL Server, preferred

  • EHR Certification in specific modules preferred

  • Specific certifications required within 4 months of class completion.

  • Classes will begin within first 2 weeks of hire based on class availability.

  • Current certifications in applicable area is preferred.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Healthcare experience preferred.

  • Understands data structures within Electronic Health Record (EHR) and ancillary applications as needed.

  • Must be able to write SQL queries, views and SQL DDL.

  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures of relational databases.

  • Ability to ask probing questions to determine the desired outcomes for data analysis.

  • SQL on Azure experience a plus.

  • Demonstrates accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Strong relationship building skills.

  • General knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
