My client is seeking a Junior Oracle Database Administrator to join our team in support of a long-term government software engineering project. This role will be responsible for ensuring the integrity of the database architecture. The position would ideally be located in Vicksburg, MS but we would consider candidates in Huntsville, AL or Washington DC (National Capitol Area). The Junior DBA will work in conjunction with two application teams and report to the Senior Project DBA located in Vicksburg, MS.
Salary commensurate with experience and area of residence.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Assessing business requirements to determine database impacts while providing technical solutions to approved business requirements, and for the optimization of the database, configuration to support modernization efforts.

  • Create software/database/interface designs/specifications and conduct the implementation of data interchange processes to ensure that data from is exchanged between multiple environments, both in near real-time and batch manner

  • Coordinate with clients while designing internal and external data interfaces to ensure that database development meets client specifications for content, process, and performance

  • Assist in establishing data standards and policies, data modeling, systems architecture design, and migration system architectures to ensure access to and integration of data assets

  • Develop and manage application/systems data, as well as application tools

  • Monitor the database environments to ensure compliance with applicable Federal and DoD security policies

  • Allocate and monitor system storage, anticipate and plan future database storage requirements

  • Plan and implement testing and Installation of patches and upgrades

  • Assess and implement best practices for data backup and data archiving in adherence with applicable Federal and DoD standards

  • Assess and optimize database performance, to include database structures and process inefficiencies

  • Assess and monitor data recovery/COOP plans

  • Assist in strategy development and implementation for application modernization, software development, and integration of IT systems with COTS solutions

  • Assist in requirements assessment, validation, and testing

  • Assist in the design, development, and support of the database architecture

What You Need for this Position

  • Oracle DB certification (MCDBA) desired

  • This position requires a minimum of two (2) years of database management experience

  • Experience with COTS portal platforms

  • Position requires experience with Oracle, SQL Server, and data modeling tools (e.g. Erwin

  • Experience with Oracle PL/SQL development and Oracle RDBMS 10g or later

  • Must have experience developing systems utilizing the SDLC framework/methodology

  • Expert understanding of data modeling, design and architecture principles and techniques across master data and transaction data

  • Strong technical expertise in database storage/management technology

  • Strong database language skills (SQL, PL/SQL, T-SQL

  • Solid skills in database performance, monitoring, and tuning procedures

  • Clear and effective communication skills (oral and written)

  • Ability to adapt quickly to a rapidly changing dynamic environment; prioritize and multi-task across numerous work streams

  • An active United States Government security clearance is preferred, however, the ability to obtain a government-issued clearance is the only requirement and all applicants with no barrier to achieving a DoD background check will be considered
