Description

Reporting to the Senior IT Operations Manager, the Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for installing and configuring database software according to the Costa Farm's needs. This involves selecting appropriate hardware, setting up necessary configurations, and ensuring compatibility with other systems. his role requires a blend of database administration and SQL development skills, along with a strong focus on data security and compliance. Candidates should possess the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional team

Primary Duties

Database Installation and Configuration:

  • Install and configure database software according to organizational needs.

  • Select appropriate hardware, set up configurations, and ensure compatibility with other systems.

Database Design:

  • Collaborate with developers and stakeholders to design and implement efficient database structures.

  • Create data models, define schemas, and optimize database performance.

Data Security and Privacy:

  • Implement security measures to protect sensitive data stored in databases.

  • Manage user access, implement authentication and authorization mechanisms, and enforce data encryption and masking.

Backup and Recovery:

  • Develop and maintain backup and recovery strategies to prevent data loss.

  • Schedule regular backups, test recovery procedures, and ensure data integrity.

Performance Monitoring and Tuning:

  • Monitor database performance metrics and identify performance bottlenecks.

  • Tune database configurations and optimize queries to improve system performance.

Capacity Planning:

  • Forecast future data growth and plan for scalability by allocating appropriate resources.

Patch Management and Upgrades:

  • Apply patches, updates, and software upgrades to address security vulnerabilities and fix bugs.

Database Monitoring and Troubleshooting:

  • Monitor database activity logs and troubleshoot issues to minimize impact on business operations.

Disaster Recovery Planning:

  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed documentation of database configurations and procedures.

  • Generate reports on database performance and compliance status.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of database concepts and technologies.

  • Proficiency in SQL query development and optimization.

  • Experience with database installation, configuration, and design.

  • Knowledge of data security best practices and compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).

  • Familiarity with backup and recovery strategies and disaster recovery planning.

  • Ability to troubleshoot database issues and perform performance tuning.

  • Experience with cloud-based databases, particularly Azure SQL Database.

  • Familiarity with Azure services related to databases, such as Azure SQL Managed Instance and Azure Cosmos DB.

  • Understanding of Microsoft Azure Fabric for deploying and managing applications and services.

  • Knowledge of cost optimization strategies for Azure resources, including resource scaling, utilization monitoring, and budget management.

  • Excellent documentation and reporting skills.

  • Experience with SIEM solutions and database security integration is a plus.
