Job Title: Data Warehouse Architect / Manager

The Data Warehouse Architect / Manager is responsible for overseeing and supporting the current and future state of the enterprise Data Warehouse including: data integration, data governance needs, reporting, analytics. The Architect works with other data groups to develop strategy, technical solution and implementation roadmap. For the management aspect of the job the DWAM is responsible for the ongoing and daily operational support needs of the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW)

They will also provide architecture designs to store data at every step of data warehousing and business intelligence process from the external data sources to operational systems to the analytic applications and designs central repository of detailed, historical and enterprise-wide information from various database platforms and external data sources. Following data management best practices the DWAM implements operational workflows needed to support, robust data flows of accurate and timely data assets and products. Partners with engineers and data scientists in large initiatives ensuring accurate interpretation of data domains and minimizing tech debt.

Deliverables

  • Work with data management and data engineering groups in both new development of data assets and maintenance of existing ones.

  • Execute high quality data integrations, migrations, and submissions to ensure on-time delivery of accurate data with minimal tech-debt.

  • Alongside data engineering and data science, manage DWH and reporting views of the data to keep concepts up-to-date and remove redundant, obsolete, or trivial data.

  • Implement and maintain high level of data quality monitoring across all stages of the data lifecycle.

  • Monitor data quality and timeliness working with operational and technical teams to resolve issues.

  • Develop an understanding of the data along with the operations and industry concepts/regulations that under pin it in service of successful implementations in large data focused initiatives.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience working with databases and driving data reliability, quality or data driven insights.

  • Advanced SQL skills and have some experience with Python or similar general programming language or scripting.

  • Familiar with concepts of data architecture and data governance, master data management and data warehouses design.

  • Experienced working with real-world data, value and understand the importance of data quality, and are comfortable cleaning datasets.

  • Excellence in working with different stakeholders to build ecosystems of data sets and tools to meet the needs of the business.

  • Experience in medical informatics or have worked with healthcare data - clinical, insurance, or benefits focused

  • Familiar with the regulations or standard file formats that under pin it.
    Experience in Medicare an extra bonus.

Department Description Enterprise Information Management is responsible for providing services to UCSF that include data architecture and modeling, ETL development and production support, and the administration of key enterprise-level data warehouses, including the Clinical Data Warehouse, the Financial and Administrative Data Warehouse, and the Education Data Warehouse. Job Summary As a preeminent health sciences campus and health system, the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is at the forefront of creating new knowledge from the exploding volume of clinical, discovery, and education data that it creates and manages. UCSF believes that the ability to leverage these data assets is an important differentiator for an academic healthcare center and is critical to our drive toward Precision Medicine and the execution of key UCSF strategies for the Clinical Enterprise. These strategies include supporting better population health by improving the quality of care and population health of the University of California health system's 14 million patients. As part of this exciting and important endeavor, UCSF is seeking a highly qualified Enterprise Data Architect. As the in-house technical expert for the Medical Center and Campus, the Enterprise Data Architect (EDA) will be responsible for developing and implementing an enterprise data strategy that aligns enterprise information assets with business and technology strategy. This will include documenting and rationalizing multiple data repositories and organizing them into a logically networked, highly-scaled, enterprise data warehouse (EDW) containing clinical, financial, operational, research and educational data. The EDA will enable the efficient and actionable use of a data across the UCSF Enterprise and across the UC health system 14 million patients. As subject matter expert, drive precise project execution through consistent planning and communication. The Enterprise Data Architect will work with EDW and Analytics management, data governance staff, primary and secondary data owners, and BI and data management professionals to: * Define and implement a data strategy and roadmap for UCSF * Define policies and establish standards for modeling, structuring, naming, describing, securing and formatting data * Work with business and IT leadership to define and document the data architecture for enterprise data assets * Develop conceptual, logical and physical data models with associated metadata including data lineage and technical data definitions * Design and implement data warehouses, marts, cubes and universes to support analytic work product requirements * Lead efforts to implement a reference data and master data management plan * Build a centralized data-architecture practice in support of strategic business and IT goals The Enterprise Data Architect will stay abreast of current and emerging data management technologies and trends and advise on how they can be used to support business and technology objectives. The Enterprise Data Architect will create a framework in information assets for multiple business domains can be delivered in a consistent, standards-based framework. The successful candidate will have leadership skills, be customer focused and have extensive experience in developing enterprise data architecture solutions. Required Qualifications * Ten years applicable data and/or information technology experience in healthcare or related field * Eight years as a data architect or data modeler * Five years experience as a Data Architect or Data Modeler in the healthcare or related industry * Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training * Expert knowledge of data management systems, practices and standards * Expert analytical and design skills, including the ability to abstract information requirements from real-world processes to understand information flows in computer systems * Expertise in the fields of data quality, data profiling, data security, Master Data concepts, and data migration * Experience with IBM InfoSphere * Experience with the Collibra data governance suite * Experience with Big Data and Hadoop technology * Experience with Epic Clarity and Caboodle * Experience with financial, operational, HR, payroll and research data * Ability to prepare models at varying levels of detail, such as broad conceptual and planning models as well as detailed logical designs or dimensional models using tools such as ERwin * Expert skill in logical data design, data integration and the specification of data services * Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with all levels, including executive-level management, on a regular basis * Good negotiation and influencing skills * Demonstrated ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds; demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at all levels in the organization * Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team; demonstrates problem-solving skills; able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
