The Role:
We are seeking an experienced Data Visualization Engineer to support Suffolk's analytical solutions. The Data Visualization Engineer, an emerging role in Suffolk's data and analytics team, will be pivotal in operationalizing the most-urgent data and analytics initiatives for Suffolk's digital business initiatives. This role will require both creative and collaborative work with IT and Suffolk's wider business. It will involve evangelizing effective data visualization practices and promoting a better understanding of data visualization and analytics.
The Data Visualization Engineer will be responsible for conducting analysis and gathering requirements to build end to end analytical solutions. They will leverage best practices for UI/UX for data visualizations and create relevant, innovative, and impactful dashboards. They must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the analytical needs of multiple teams, systems, and products. Responsibilities
Conceptualize, design, and develop interactive data visualizations that make complex data more accessible, understandable, and actionable for advocates.
Work with stakeholders on requirements for key business metrics, visualization, delivery, and enabling actionable insights.
Rapidly define, design, construct, test and maintain interactive visualizations or workbooks that will reveal insight and opportunities for the product owner.
Develop rich interactive visualizations that are intuitive, easy to use, and understand.
Collaborate with Suffolk's marketing department to develop a style guide for data visualization and ensure data visualizations have consistency in branding and design amongst the enterprise.
Ensure high adoption rate of the data and analytics tools portfolio (data preparation and data visualization tools) by focusing on usability of solutions, data integrity, user training and go-live support
Develop standards and best practices for data visualization to be used throughout Suffolk Construction.
Design and develop a set of templates for short fact sheets, data visualizations, dashboards, etc.
Prepare, blend, and cleanse data from multiple sources to design extracts for optimal use with Tableau or PowerBI.
Work with the Data Engineer to develop models in the data warehouse.
Prepare documentation of technical requirements and data definitions.
Qualifications
Qualifications
A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, data management, information systems, or a related quantitative field [or equivalent work experience] is required.
At least 5 years of analytics experience.
At least 4 years of experience working in cross-functional team and collaborating with business stakeholders in support of departmental and/or multi-departmental analytics initiatives.
Strong data visualization capabilities, including at least 4 years of experience in Tableau, PowerBI, with an aptitude to learn new tools.
At least 2 years of experience in data sourcing, transformation and clean up, including use data ETL tools such as Alteryx, PowerAutomate and SQL.
Knowledge of different chart types and how to leverage them to answer specific questions.
Strong ability to format (UI/UX) your visualizations and dashboards for maximum impact.
Ability to build complex calculations to manipulate data.
Strong experience developing and shaping data with SQL.
Advanced understanding of data architecture.
Advanced knowledge of Excel (pivot tables, charting, macros, calculations).
Strong creative problem-solving skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Construction experience preferred but not required.
Tableau Desktop certification(s) or PowerBI (Exam DA-100) preferred.
