The BIDS Strategic and Data Science InitiativesGroup has been established to undertake key initiatives and establish newcollaborations in computing and data science to address cancer challenges andaccelerate cancer research. A key focus of this group is to provide a secureand robust data management environment for scientific data in accordance withFAIR data principles supporting an increasing level of analysis for theever-expanding collection of scientific datasets.
We are seeking a Data Systems Analyst for anewly created full-time position that offers a great opportunity to solve thedata science challenges faced by scientists working at the cutting edge ofcancer research. This is a highly visible position supporting users of our datamanagement environment and enterprise data services.
Data Systems Analyst
Identify and define system requirements andfeatures, and work to develop solutions for stakeholder issues
Work closely with user groups to assist withmetadata and data hierarchy definitions
Train stakeholders on the use of the datamanagement environment and enterprise data services
Provide technical support for on-boarding usersto the Data Management environment. Perform user configurations and developcustom scripts for metadata extraction/data transfer as required
Perform verification and validation of featurereleases and patch fixes for the Data Services API
Keep abreast of emerging trends and advances indata and metadata management
To be considered forthis position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilitieslisted below:
Possession of a Bachelor's degree in computerscience, information systems or a related field from an accredited college oruniversity according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Foreigndegrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
In addition to the educational requirements, aminimum of six (6) years of experience, with 2 years in a client facing role
Experience with data management systemshandling large datasets
Familiarity with object storage technologiese.g. Amazon S3, Cleversafe or others
Experience with Linux
Experience using one or more programming orscripting languages
Familiarity with data interchange formats e.g.JSON, XML
Candidates with thesedesired skills will be given preferential consideration:
Possession of a Master's degree
Experience with scientific datasets e.g.next-gen sequencing, imaging, etc.
Familiarity with cloud technologies
Familiarity with test automation frameworkse.g. selenium
Working knowledge of REST APIs
Familiarity with version control systems suchas GitHub or subversion
Excellent communication, requirements elicitationand interpersonal skills
Experience working in a fast paced, agileenvironment
Must be a team player
