We are hiring a Data Steward to be responsible for the management and fitness of our business critical data elements including usage, content, and metadata. The Data Steward is a specialist role, ideal for someone who can manage processes, policies, guidelines, and responsibilities for administering ITHAKA's usage and content data, while also being an exceptional analyst and communicator with a deep understanding of how data is used by stakeholders across our organization and by our external partners.
ITHAKA is a highly-successful non-profit with a mission to expand access to knowledge and education around the world whose services include the well-known research platform, JSTOR, and the leading digital preservation service, Portico. Across these products, ITHAKA has vast stores of data including more than 500 terabytes of academic content, usage data for hundreds and millions of users over two decades, and billions of logged events. As Data Steward, you will identify data quality metrics and execute data quality audits to benchmark the state of data quality, and monitor, track and report ongoing data quality levels. You will be a data influencer who works with wide variety of stakeholders, and who understands how data is used for decision making. You will also work to create an understanding of the complexity across the flow of data in efforts of moving data issues to resolution.
The ideal candidate will have data and analytics expertise, data engineering skills, strong business acumen, and experience working with data related teams, while being an effective communicator and creative thinker who is comfortable learning new processes and ways of working. This role reports to the VP, Data and Analytics.
Serve as the primary point of contact within ITHAKA for all matters related to data governance for business and technical stakeholders.
Collaborate with business users to understand and capture the definition, organization, and uses of key data within an ITHAKA business data domain.
Ensure data are fit for purpose by managing data quality including business rules, data profiling, control validation, and remediation.
Work with data management and technology experts to analyze and understand data supply chains from source to consumption points.
Support the continuous improvement of data quality by representing business data needs and advocating data governance best practices with technology initiatives.
Coordinate with enterprise functions such as risk, privacy, and information security to ensure data complies with firm wide requirements on quality, access, and usage.
Experience and Skills
Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science or equivalent.
Experience creating and using data models and data definitions.
Experience with requirements gathering and analysis.
Experience implementing and enforcing data access control mechanisms.
Experience with improving data quality and resolving data deficiencies.
Experience with lifecycle management developing, testing, documenting, implementing and maintaining system changes.
