POSITION SUMMARY

First and foremost, Data Scientist/Analysts are passionate about analyzing and interpreting data to help our Bank make data-driven decisions that will drive growth. Veteran Data Scientist/Analysts are excellent communicators with a perfect blend of business acumen/ industry knowledge and big data technical skills. As a bridge to the Bank's lines of business, Data Scientist/Analysts never lose sight of the number one objective: helping the Bank gain actionable insights from data that will allow them to make better, faster, smarter decisions.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work directly with business leaders throughout the Bank to oversee all aspects of a project: from understanding their business challenges through data collection, data analysis, presentation of results and recommendations, and working with our data science third party partners.

  • Perform data analysis using cutting-edge data science and data visualization software; identify trends and patterns; extract key insights, recommendations, and conclusions; and communicate those points succinctly.

  • Analyze results, review data for anomalies, investigate to identify and determine causes, and correct data inaccuracies and inconsistencies as necessary.

  • Prepare and present reports for executive-level clients with compelling visualizations that effectively summarize data findings and lay out key insights, recommendations, and conclusions.

  • Develop and document processes to support best practice analyses.

  • Establish data analytics as a core competency and a competitive advantage within the Bank.

  • Follow company policy and procedures which protect sensitive data and maintain compliance with established security standards and best practices.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The position will start with one or two direct reports. Part of the job expectation is that the selected candidate will build a data organization that he/she will lead. This is a green field position and as such, the selected candidate should be able to demonstrate experience indicating how such an organization would be developed, grown and used to establish a competitive advantage.

SKILLS AND TRAINING

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to communicate technical concepts in terms that a wide audience can understand, regardless of their technical aptitude.

Sharp technical skills/ aptitude, complimented by strong business experience/ industry knowledge.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with an ability to demonstrate effective use of formulas, tables, conditional formatting, advanced charting, pivot tables, and macros.

Strong analytical and statistical skills

Ability to learn new skills quickly.

Ability to thrive in an uncertain, fast-paced, ever-changing environment with a frequently demanding schedule.

Experience with at least one data visualization tool, preferably Tableau.

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.

WORK EXPERIENCE
10 or more years in diverse roles and increasing leadership responsibilities across major data projects and programs.

Bank experience preferred, but not required.

Previous consulting or client service experience preferred, but not required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The work is performed mainly in a normal office environment. Noise levels are usually moderate.

Summer Program Overview The Summer Analyst program at MUFG has a reputation for providing college students with the opportunity to participate in meaningful projects that contribute to the overall business unit objectives. In addition to the assigned projects, students are given the opportunity to participate in activities that encourage networking with peers, managers, and bank employees. These paid positions are full-time (40 hours per week) during regular business hours throughout the summer. The length of the summer program is 10 weeks and can extend beyond that time depending on business needs, project requirements, and student availability. Team and Position Description This Summer Analyst position will provide an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to Data Management needs for New Capabilities & Controls sub organization that is responsible for the delivery of Integrated Controls across the three layers of Enterprise Data Management Architecture (EDMA) for MUFG Americas. The primary focus will be to leverage existing controls in compliance domain and extend them to possibly other domains where applicable and scalable.
