Job Description

SAIC is seeking a Data Scientist Team Manager who can remotely lead a small team responsible for providing expanded analytical services to create a Cancer Registry collection of health data, metadata, reports, reference materials and analysis tools. The Data Scientist Team Manager will provide technical leadership and direction to project team.

Some travel may be required, but is not expected to exceed 10%

Responsibilities would include:

  • Review status of project and budget; manages schedule and prepares status reports.

  • Assesse project issues and develop resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives.

  • Develop mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project managers, line managers, and clients.

  • Responsibilities may include developing budgets and schedules to meet contractual/project requirements for an assigned portion of a program, participating in and establishing and defining program plan requirements, and monitoring and reporting performance against plans to ensure that contractual, cost and schedule objectives are met.

  • Working with data at all stages of the analysis lifecycle to derive actionable insight.

  • Translates mission needs into an end-to-end analytical approach to achieve results.

  • Performs the pre-analytics areas of data collection and understanding, data cleansing and integration, and data storage and retrieval.

  • Determines the appropriate analytics based on the data and the desired outcomes, using techniques including feature detection, statistics, data mining, predictive modeling, machine learning, natural language processing, and business intelligence.

  • Interprets the validity of results and communicates the meaning of those results.

  • Has familiarity with data wrangling, analytics, and visualization software and programming languages, including analytics methods for big data.

  • Follows a scientific approach to generate value from data, verifying results at each step.




  • Bachelors and nine (9) years or more experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more experience ; PhD or JD and four (4) years or more experience.

  • Ten years or more of progressive experience in Data Analytics and/or Data Science.

  • Two years leading a small team.

  • Strong background in math, economics, statistics, or computer science.

  • Excellent analytical skills.

  • Ability to analyze, model and interpret data.

  • Transform, improve and integrate data, depending on mission requirements.

  • Combine the data result sets across multiple sources.

  • Problem solving, troubleshooting ability.

  • Critical thinking capabilities - able to look at numbers, trends, and data and come to new conclusions based on the findings.


  • PMP certification

  • Prior experience with CDC is a plus

  • Experience in public health a plus
