As a Sr. Data Scientist within Retail Lending Fraud Risk Decisioning, you will be based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with other locations under consideration.

As a Sr. Data Scientist, in the Retail Lending Fraud Risk Decisioning group, you will interact closely with Products, Strategy, Sales, and Technology experts to derive insights from data in order to reduce fraud risk exposure throughout the retail bank. On a day-to-day basis, you will contribute to various Big Data and Analytics initiatives; your activities will include designing, prototyping, testing, and implementing a wide range of solutions ranging from Machine Learning models to classical rule-based systems.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • BA/BS in a STEM area. Advanced Degree and or PhD preferred.

  • 5 + years of related experience.

  • A strong background in Machine Learning algorithms

  • A strong background in probability and statistics

  • Exceptional programming skills in at least two of the following: Python, Scala, R, Julia

  • Practical Experience with the Hadoop Ecosystem

  • Experience with Apache Spark

  • Experience with Visualization techniques (Shiny, D3.js, Tableau)

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Knowledge of banking industry

  • Leads the implementation of analytical projects that leverage vast amounts of structured and unstructured data to extract actionable business insights.

  • Directs the data gathering, data processing and data mining of large and complex datasets.

  • Leads the development of algorithms using advanced mathematical and statistical techniques like machine learning to predict business outcomes and recommend optimal actions to management.

  • Leads analytical experiments in a methodical manner to find opportunities for product and process optimization. Presents business insights to management using visualization technologies and data storytelling.

  • Partners with Data Architects, Data Analysts, Data Engineers and Visualization Experts to develop data-driven solutions for the business.

Work Experience

Roles at this level typically require a university / college degree, with 5+ years of industry-relevant experience. Specific certifications are often required. In lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education and experience (including military service) may be considered.
