You will build and enhance recommender systems and personalization algorithms to drive customer engagement in the App and across other Amazon machine learning systems. You motivate your team to pursue ambiguous situations with technologies like Spark, EMR, SageMaker to rapidly produce prototypes for a more personalized customer experience.

You outline paths from prototype to product - leading experiments with new customer signals to refine our cross-system personalization algorithms. You will explore new data sources to expand the breadth of the personalization logic. You provide mobile perspective and context for technology choices. You're up to the challenge of mobile network limitations, device fragmentation, and building an end-to-end platform that internal Amazon teams integrate with.

About the hiring team:

App Experiences (AppX) team's mission is to explore new ways for Amazon customers to complete common shopping tasks quicker, browse more efficiently, and discover new features. Even as the 10th most-installed app, we're still learning how to make the right decisions for customers and how to educate them about new features.

We build new iOS & Android features addressing customer frustrations and innovate on core shopping functions like the personalized navigation menu, location awareness, and browsing; identifying core shopping experiences that are not mobile optimized, and fix them. We spend a lot of time thinking about what mobile shopping means and how we do it correctly with strong partnerships between dev, product, and design competencies. Our toughest problems are crafting world-class UX experiences and every pixel matters to our customers. We are innovators at heart, and mobile App customer experience is king to us.

The Applied Machine Learning Team in Apple Media Product group is a group of passionate researcher, data scientists and machine learning engineers from various disciplines with extensive track records in both academia and industry. We lead many challenging projects that build intelligent platforms to serve a variety of AMP business, covering Apple Store, Apple TV, Apple Arcade and other services. We are at the forefront of using advanced machine learning or deep learning techniques on diversified data to tackle impactful business problems. The team spends great effort to continuously innovate and persistently transfer the innovations into practical systems. We encourage in-depth research, independent thinking, quick learning, proficient engineering and effective communication. A background in computer science/engineering, information science, statistics or similar quantitative field. PhD is strongly preferred. In-depth understanding of machine learning basics. Experience with machine learning and deep learning modeling for a variety of tasks, such as time series monitoring, NLP or content analysis. A minimum of 3-year experience with machine learning and deep learning framework, such as Tensorflow, Keras, PyTorch, and MxNet. A minimum of 3-year experience with big data technologies, such as Hadoop and Spark for large scale datasets. Proficient in SQL languages. A minimum of 3-year experience with optimization, algorithms, statistical techniques, and skillful hands-on implementation with Python.
