Data Scientist - Front Office

Millennium's newly formed data science group is seeking a Data Scientist to join the team. The individual will be responsible for analyzing and transforming structured and unstructured alternative data into actionable insights by applying their data science and engineering skills. The candidate should possess deep technical and analytical skills to build and maintain end-to-end data products.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Identifying & acquiring new datasets to track companies' business performance

  • Work with data sourcing teams to identify new potential data products and vendors

  • Mine new alternative datasets to uncover signals and determine value based on historical data samples

  • Backtest datasets to assess their correlation to company KPIs (e.g. revenue growth, comps)

  • Monitoring & analyzing datasets to provide insight to investment teams

  • Build and maintain robust data ingestion processes to structure various data sources into relational databases

  • Write code to tag, clean, and normalize large unstructured and structured datasets

  • Build anomaly detection systems and automated checks to ensure all analyses are robust to noisy data and variability

  • Create dashboards (e.g. in Tableau) to visualize datasets and present key insights

Qualifications/Skills Required

  • At least 4-5+ years of professional engineering or research working experience

  • Self-starter with an ability to take ownership of complete end-to-end data products (from ingestion to visualization/presentation of analyses)

  • BS/BA from a top tier institution, preferably in a quantitative discipline (e.g. applied math, statistics, economics, etc.). Advanced degree preferred

  • Extensive programming experience with Python/R

  • Highly proficient in writing advanced and optimized SQL queries

  • Experience with data visualization tools and libraries (i.e. Tableau, Qlik, D3)

  • Basic understanding of financial metrics and company fundamentals (revenue, profitability, etc.)

  • Experience building machine learning models preferred (e.g. Neural Networks, Bayesian Networks)
