Job Description BAE Systems has a position opening for a highly skilled Natural Language Processing (NLP) Data Scientist to support a growing government program in the National Capital Region.

Hybrid Information: This is a mostly remote home office-based position; however candidate selected must be located within 40-mile commuting distance to Arlington, VA to support working in the Arlington, VA office as determined by the customer.

Applicants who apply will work within both live, as-is development, as well as research and development environments to build, develop, and finetune, a custom, government-specific language processing tool. Day to day activities include:

  • Modeling: Lead the development and implementation of NLP algorithms & models to drive key mission use cases

  • Data mining: Utilize NLP technologies to extract insights from internal data sources, including a mix of structured and unstructured data

  • Solution & System Development: Build and improve automated threat screening application which helps intelligence analysts consume, analyze, and escalate content

  • R&D: Stay up to date with the latest advancements in NLP/NLU/NLG and identify appropriate business use cases to apply them. Likewise stay abreast of any advances in web scraping techniques / challenges.

  • Technical leadership: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, and operations teams, to gather requirements and formulate them into feasible solutions for the unit

  • Communication: Lead interactions with operational and technical stakeholders to present findings, insights, and recommendations to in a clear and concise manner, both verbally and through reports or presentations.

  • Mentorship: Mentor and guide junior data scientists, data analysts, and/or software engineers, providing technical expertise and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • 3 years of proven experience in designing, developing, and implementing AI/ML solutions, with at least 3 years in NLP models and algorithms

  • Proficiency in Python programming language, and expertise in relevant NLP and deep learning libraries and frameworks (e.g. TensorFlow, PyTorch, Spacy, langchain)

  • Demonstrated experience developing and applying NLP techniques (e.g. LLM, transformers, embeddings, topic models) to relevant use cases (NER, Q&A, document summarization/classification, text generation, sentiment analysis, semantic search)

  • Familiarity with web scraping tools and strategies, including bulk API ingestion as well as HTML parsing approaches (e.g. Selenium, Beautifulsoup)

  • Familiarity with cloud-based platforms (e.g. AWS) and big data processing tools (e.g. Apache Spark)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work on complex challenges and deliver impactful solutions.

  • Strong sense of curiosity and ability to self-learn; willingness to research, design, test & productize novel solutions and learn from open-ended experiments

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills is a must, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and manage stakeholders.

  • Must possess a current Government security clearance or have the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $126610 - $215270

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
