Our enterprise-wide data science and data strategy team is looking for a data scientist with experience in advanced analytics and a real passion for addressing business needs through data analysis and visualization. As an individual contributor on this team, you will work to address high-impact research and business questions across research and development, clinical, commercial, and general and administrative areas of our business. You'll work side-by-side with internal partners from across the organization to develop creative solutions for our highest priority business needs.Responsibilities include:

  • Work with a team of data scientists and cross functional partners to collaboratively develop solutions

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for advanced analytics; build and deliver compelling data visualizations and outputs to communicate findings

  • Execute data analysis, data mining, data munging, and other techniques to solve business questions

  • Apply advanced analytics and statistical approaches to projects

  • Mentor and support the training of technical and non-technical teams in data science and advanced analytics

  • Participate in the broader data science community to stay current with methodology, software, and data development and availability

  • Bring an entrepreneurial mindset, openness, transparency, and collegiality to your work

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to collaborate and work closely with a team of technical and non-technical individual contributors

  • Expertise in programming languages such as R, Python, JavaScript and other data science-related tools (e.g. SQL, Tableau, D3)

  • PhD or Master's Degree in a computational and quantitative discipline (e.g. statistics, computer science, biomedical informatics, genetics, neuroscience, physics, epidemiology, health economics, etc)

  • Deep understanding of statistical/analytical methodology

  • Experience in advanced analytics, preferably in a business setting

  • Exceptional communication skills and experience in presenting findings to non-technical audiences

  • Experience in effective data visualization approaches and a keen eye for detail in the visual communication of findings

  • Comfort working with non-technical individuals to translate business questions to analytically actionable questions

  • A strong desire to build meaningful solutions for a life sciences business

  • Task oriented with ability to set goals and complete deliverables

Preferred qualifications:

  • Domain knowledge of clinical data, real-world data, or life sciences-related research data

  • Knowledge of the biotechnology industry

We seek an entrepreneurial data analyst capable of working across functional and business areas with minimal supervision in order to support the application of data science methods and statistical techniques to data for internal use at Raytheon. You will work directly with the Manager of Advanced Analytics at IDS to develop and execute analytic products for internal business users. Solutions will span manufacturing, engineering, business development, supply chain, and quality control functions. This role will be filled at either a G09 or G10 grade level based on the selected applicant's experience and skill level - to be determined by the hiring manager at the time of selection. The selected applicant must have the ability to obtain a US Government DOD Secret Clearance when necessary to support specific programs in the future. Except in rare cases, only US Citizens are eligible to obtain US DOD Clearances. PLEASE NOTE - Once the selected applicant completes an initial transitional period for training and indoctrination, a "remote working schedule" may be an option for the selected applicant. Relocation is available at a capped budget to the selected applicant if they are eligible per company policy and at the hiring manager's discretion. The budget amount will be discussed at the appropriate stage in our process. Required Skills: * Support Manager of Data Science in meeting with business stakeholders to identify and develop requirements for strategic use cases * Collaborate with data owners and technology teams to source data sets required for analyses * Apply quantitative techniques to cleanse and explore large, complex data sets in preparation for further analysis * Apply data reduction, feature selection, and feature engineering techniques * Develop and implement hypothesis tests * Develop, validate, and operationalize appropriate mathematical and statistical algorithms and models, including implementation on large data sets * Review, enhance, and execute operationalized algorithms and models * Develop data products for and communicate analytic insights to internal stakeholders * Effectively communicate statistical/mathematical techniques to non-technical audiences * Create repeatable processes and scalable data products in collaboration with the advanced analytics team * Stay current with new data science methods, technologies, industry trends and open source packages * Attend events and conferences pertinent to the field and engage locally with extra-curricular data science and advanced analytics groups. * Must be able to obtain a US Govt. Desired Skills: * Familiarity with self-service data preparation and workflow management tools such as Alteryx, Tamr, Paxdata, Trifacta etc. * Experience with data visualization applications such as Tableau, RShiny, Plotly, Microsoft PowerBI, Qlik, Looker, SAP Lumira, etc. * Experience with front-end JavaScript frameworks (Angular, React) and JavaScript visualization libraries such as D3 * Experience with NoSQL and Apache stack data environments * Familiarity with public cloud services such as AWS or Azure * Self-starter with strong analytics, critical thinking, and problem solving skills * Excellent communication skills, with ability to process and present complex information in a concise and compelling manner to non-technical audiences * Ability and eagerness to learn and educate others * Willingness to become strong in both Python and R statistical programming languages (not just one) * Experience in diverse domains (manufacturing operations, supply chain, finance, engineering, information technology, business development, quality control) Required Education (including Major): * Master's or higher degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Business, Engineering, Computer Science, Finance, Mathematics or a quantitative degree in other social science or hard science fields This position requires either a U.S. Person or a Non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required Export Authorization and also eligible to obtain a US DOD Secret Clearance as necessary.
