This position is remote, but occasional travel for training and meetings may be required, so the successful candidate will be a resident of Pennsylvania.
The Data Scientist in the Department of Advanced Data Analytics at Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education System Office will play a pivotal role in transforming data into actionable insights to support academic and administrative decision-making. This individual will utilize advanced data modeling, statistical analysis, and machine learning techniques to analyze complex data sets and provide data-driven recommendations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement advanced statistical models and machine learning algorithms to analyze large, complex data sets
Design and conduct experiments to test hypotheses and validate models
Collaborate with academic and administrative departments to identify data needs and provide insights to inform decision-making
Create data visualizations and dashboards to communicate findings to non-technical stakeholders
Conduct data preprocessing, cleansing, and validation to ensure data integrity
Stay up to date with the latest advancements in data science and machine learning and apply new techniques to improve analytical capabilities
Prepare reports, research findings, and data insights for system leadership and other key stakeholders
Work with data architecture and data governance teams to ensure proper data management, security, and compliance with university policies
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field
Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in data science, machine learning, or a related field
Experience with programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL
Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar
Strong understanding of statistical analysis, data mining, and machine learning techniques
Excellent critical thinking skills and attention to detail
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a non-technical audience
Strong organizational and project management skills
Preferred Qualifications
A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity
Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) is a plus
Experience working in higher education or research institutions
Familiarity with educational data systems and student information systems
Knowledge of data governance and data privacy regulations
