This position is remote, but occasional travel for training and meetings may be required, so the successful candidate will be a resident of Pennsylvania.

The Data Scientist in the Department of Advanced Data Analytics at Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education System Office will play a pivotal role in transforming data into actionable insights to support academic and administrative decision-making. This individual will utilize advanced data modeling, statistical analysis, and machine learning techniques to analyze complex data sets and provide data-driven recommendations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement advanced statistical models and machine learning algorithms to analyze large, complex data sets

• Design and conduct experiments to test hypotheses and validate models

• Collaborate with academic and administrative departments to identify data needs and provide insights to inform decision-making

• Create data visualizations and dashboards to communicate findings to non-technical stakeholders

• Conduct data preprocessing, cleansing, and validation to ensure data integrity

• Stay up to date with the latest advancements in data science and machine learning and apply new techniques to improve analytical capabilities

• Prepare reports, research findings, and data insights for system leadership and other key stakeholders

• Work with data architecture and data governance teams to ensure proper data management, security, and compliance with university policies

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field

• Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in data science, machine learning, or a related field

• Experience with programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL

• Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar

• Strong understanding of statistical analysis, data mining, and machine learning techniques

• Excellent critical thinking skills and attention to detail

• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a non-technical audience

• Strong organizational and project management skills

Preferred Qualifications

• A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity

• Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) is a plus

• Experience working in higher education or research institutions

• Familiarity with educational data systems and student information systems

• Knowledge of data governance and data privacy regulations
