Primary role: Duke Crucible is an engineering team designed to rapidly deliver high-quality technical applications that answer the most pressing questions that our researchers and clinicians face.

We use the most modern technology to facilitate repeatable and reproducible research results to impact patient care in a meaningful way. Our high-performance teams are focused on quality problem solving and a drive to delivery. Our Data Science Analysts are adaptable to new methods and technologies, with an eagerness to learn and adjust.

The Data Science Analyst is a critical member of a small, agile development track. Core resources committed to each track are three: 1 Data Science Analyst, 1 Sr.

Software Engineer, 1 Data Scientist. Tracks must self-organize around each project to work through the "problem" or question, define a solution, develop the solution and transition the solution to an operational unit. It is imperative that all track members are committed to the plan, deliverables, timeline and one another. Responsibilities may vary across tracks and projects.

Candidates should be familiar with data science technologies, data structures, health data, research policies, and practices and health organizations.

Essential tasks/responsibilities:

Research, learn and apply new technologies to support and enable the advancement of health data science

Work with operational IT units to transition applications to production

Meet with researchers, clinicians, faculty and staff to understand and propose answers/solutions to their health data science questions and problems

Work with track members and Crucible Team to meet deliverables on time

Be prepared to demonstrate functionality

Raise risks immediately, follow through until resolved or alternative pathway defined

Extract, clean and map data. Data cleaning and mapping will require the use of programming tools such as a relational database, SAS, or a scripting language such as Perl or Python.

Assist with the development and implementation of scalable test strategies. Conduct project-specific functional testing.

Understand and adhere to relevant federal regulations, including HIPAA, FISMA, FedRAMP, GCP.

Education/training

Required: Bachelor's degree in relevant research or technical field or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Preferred: Master's degree in a relevant or technical field plus two years of relevant work experience.

Experience

Required: Minimum of three years' experience with the development of technologies used for data science or informatics

Preferred: Five years' experience with the development of technologies used for data science or informatics and/or five years' experience working in regulated healthcare or research environment.
