KAR Auction Services is accelerating the used car industry by bringing data and technology together in a spectacular, first-of-its-kind fashion to help our customers buy and sell used cars more efficiently. The KAR organization has invested heavily into sourcing data across multiple vendors and building infrastructure around sharing data with strategic partners. We're excited to add a talented product owner to our team who is passionate about data and looks forward to improving efficiency in the use of this data and with our strategic partners.

The Data Product Owner is responsible for owning the data partnerships across multiple vendors and the implementation of their data across the KAR organization. In addition, this role will manage the governance of both inbound and outbound strategic decisioning. Lastly, this role will work to 'productize' our data offerings for use by internal stakeholders and their dealer/ partner customers. Primary deliverables include deep understandings of KAR's current data services and their appropriate team's road maps relative to the use of that data. The PO will interface directly with engineering, product management, project management and senior leaders across KAR. The PO should have a technical, formalized, and deterministic mindset yet the ability to think strategically about the future use of data within KAR.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Act as a product expert and functional leader within the company regarding enterprise-wide current and future data contracts/ relationships

  • Work closely with KAR SLT in managing the governance/ use of data, both internally and externally

  • Report on and help shepherd the execution of enterprise-wide data contract requirements across the different KAR business units

  • Report to KAR SLT on the use, cost and contractual requirements relative to enterprise-wide data contracts

  • Manage 3rd party vendor relationships and contracting with enterprise-wide data vendors

  • Make recommendations around the optimal use of enterprise-wide data solutions across the KAR organization

  • Establish a value proposition, messaging, pricing strategy, etc around outbound data solutions for internal stakeholders to leverage when speaking about data licensing opportunities from KAR

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 4 years experience within a data related technical role, preferably in product management, business analysis, engineering or vendor management

  • Demonstrated success in working with data feeds, APIs and cross-department collaboration

  • Preferred experience in online automotive, remarketing or auction services markets

  • Technical background, with experience in software development methodologies like Agile, Kanban, Lean, and SAFe.

  • Business Skills Able to comprehend the business context and market problem that drive the building of a product.

  • Project Management Skills Ability to negotiate work with partners and clients that lead into formalized project plans and deliverables.

  • Leadership Skills Able to rally and gain backing from internal stakeholders in order to build organizational support for the proposed data integrations.

  • Technology Skills Able to understand data feed transmission, API integrations and light data modeling/ analysis.

  • Contracting Skills Proven experience in digesting contract details and working directly with leadership/ legal on contracting

  • Excellent teamwork skills and proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority

  • Ability to work across multiple projects simultaneously

  • Demonstrated collaboration, negotiation and conflict resolution skills

  • Analytic, highly creative and business-focused problem solver

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree is preferred

The Product Owner will be responsible for working closely with business partners to prioritize the product backlog, work with the development teams, and maintain the vision of the product. Additionally, you will develop the MVP, work closely with the UI/UX teams to streamline the user experience, and assist with product road-map development. JOB DUTIES * Translate product management vision and your detailed knowledge of our customers' needs into stories that development teams can use to build products and features. * Be comfortable digging into some technical detail with software developers to help evaluate the merit of various approaches to delivering product capabilities. * Develop proficiency and understanding around applications to evaluate complex issues and provide recommendations for solutions along with a solid plan to execute. * Identifies, gathers and understands business needs, processes, and requirements from business stakeholders and clients, * Owns maintaining and prioritizing the team backlog and iterations are planned with defined goals * Engage directly and daily with delivery teams to execute the project. * Ensure product acceptance and readiness at key phases of the delivery cycle. * Develop communication materials and lead communication efforts around the product, priorities and future roadmaps. * Effectively communicate to and lead a broad range of people at multiple levels within the organization. * Act as liaison between customer and software developers. * Have account ownership for problem determination, research, resolution and follow-up on customer issues. QUALIFICATIONS * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, or related discipline. * Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Product Owner in a software development environment. * Experience working with Agile software development methodologies such as Kanban, Scrum, or SAFe. * Demonstrated success defining and launching excellent products and features. * Able to comprehend the business context and market problem that drive the building of a product. * Able to evaluate and foresee how proposed technical solutions will impact the product. * Ability to work across multiple projects simultaneously. * Demonstrated collaboration, negotiation and conflict resolution skills. * Thirst for learning.
