Hughes has an exciting opportunity for a Data Mining Engineer to be based in Germantown, Maryland. The primary focus of this position is to apply data mining and machine learning techniques to structured and unstructured data and provide descriptive and predictive analyses that will guide business decisions and prioritize enhancements in products and services. This position will work across multiple domains of the domestic/international managed service business, including but not limited to: sales & marketing, product manufacturing, billing, product/service performance, automated/agent-assisted customer support, support visits, and customer feedback.
Compile and clarify requirements from stakeholders for the data mining projects.
Proactively search for improvement opportunities across business domains to create requirements for the data mining projects.
Partner with IT, engineering, manufacturing and other business operation groups to collect data of diverse forms and formats for the data mining projects from multiple data sources within the companies and from the public domains (e.g., weather data).
As required and feasible, collaborate to build new or enhance the automated processes for data collection, and even for data recording at the data generating ends, to expand and sharpen the vision of data mining with goal of near real-time feedback.
Carry out the projects with data mining and machine learning techniques such as:
Perform data integrity review and data cleansing
Analyze data, run descriptive statistics, explore relationships: correlation, covariance, causality, structural equation modeling, and build Bayesian Influence diagrams
Define and develop features selections (Ridge/Lasso) and rankings
Define dynamics in the system as difference equations, Markovian processes, AR/ARMA, and develop Optimization algorithms
Sub-group analysis: clustering, agglomerative clustering, graph based clustering, and PCA analysis
Develop Predictive models with Gradient Boosting, Random Forest, SVM, and Logistic Regression using both generative and discriminative algorithms
Communicate data mining insights and recommend improvements to stakeholders using dashboards, automated reports, and presentations skills
Experience in following:
R, Python, Java
Data science toolkits, such as RDSTK, NumPy, Weka, etc.
Conventional RDBMS platform such as Oracle, SQL Server
Big Data Hadoop/MapReduce/SPARK/HIVE/NoSQL platform
Data visualization tools such as Tableau, D3.js, GGplot, WEBI
Experience in text analytics is preferred
Excellent communications, and presentation skills
