Emmes is seeking four entry-level Data Manager/Protocol Monitors to support its group of Vaccine and Infectious Disease studies


This position will support one or more studies within the Vaccine and Infectious Disease (VID) research team that provides data management and statistical support for more than 200 clinical research studies, domestically and internationally. The VID group supports infectious disease research across a wide range of disease areas, including: Malaria, Tuberculosis, Influenza, Ebola, MRSA, STI and Enteric pathogens, and emerging infectious diseases. VID supports Phase 1-4 clinical trials investigating vaccines and treatments for bacterial, viral, and parasitic agents, as well as epidemiological studies. Primary services include statistical design and analysis; bioinformatics support; implementation of Emmes' proprietary software for electronic data collection, data management, and electronic specimen tracking; preparation of study-related materials and web site development; generation of safety, regulatory, and final reports and manuscripts; clinical site training, assessment, and technical assistance; and study communication and collaboration.

The Data Manager/Protocol Monitor is responsible for completing study-specific data management activities in accordance with Good Clinical Practices and other relevant guidelines. The Data Manager/Protocol Monitor works as an integral part of a multidisciplinary project team through the lifecycle of the clinical study, from study design through final analysis. The Data Manager/Protocol Monitor produces study materials to ensure the appropriate data are collected, and is responsible for the completeness and accuracy of the study data. Data management deliverables include data collection forms, electronic case report forms, data integrity checks, manuals of procedure, and data collection guidelines. The Data Manager/Protocol Monitor also performs quality control of data displays in analysis reports.


  • Work in a team environment to design, develop and manage clinical trial data systems, utilizing strong data management and computing skills

  • Design, build, test and validate electronic case report forms (eCRFs)

  • Develop, generate, manage, and distribute data queries and reports to clinical sites

  • Contribute to the quality and accuracy of various reports for the duration of the trial

  • Ensure adherence to project and corporate standard operating procedures (SOPs), as well as Federal Regulations and ICH/GCP in maintaining data integrity and quality throughout a clinical study protocol


  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline preferred

  • Strong data management/computer skills; experience with CRF design, EDC systems, or other web based data collection systems helpful

  • Prior experience in clinical research preferred

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Skills in prioritization, organization, and time management

  • High attention to detail, ability to multi-task and collaborative

Position will start in Frederick, MD for training and can work in either location once training is complete. Will be responsible for the planning, tracking, analysis and reporting of programs under the FDA portfolio within the Civil Health Operation. Will work with Program Management team and assist with and manage internal projects from initiation through completion. Will be working with team in all aspects of EV, including the CPR submittal to customer. Uses formal processes and tools to manage resources, budgets, risks and changes. Manages projects to ensure on-time completion according to specifications and within budgeted costs. Will be part of an existing team as a Financial Controller on the FDA program. Will participate in the planning, tracking, analysis, and reporting of the FDA programs the under Civil Health. Responsibilities include significant interface with the Program Managers, Contracts, FP&A, and other Support organizations. Implements financial policies and procedures in support of the program. Will be working with team in all aspects of EV, including the CPR submittal to customer. Establishes and maintains cost/schedule baselines, develops WBS and related dictionaries, develops schedules or Resource Loaded Networks (RLNs), budgets, and has a complete understanding of related financial policies. Understands schedule critical path and performs related analyses. Will assist in new business proposals providing input and cost volumes to management. Provides data and reporting formats for all types and levels of program financial reviews. Prepares written and verbal reports to management regarding cost schedule variances BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or a related discipline plus 4 years related experience. Basic knowledge of multiple contract types: FFP, FPLOE, T&M, Cost Plus and hybrid contracts. Has the ability to complete difficult and complex assignments within the programs supporting. Analytical, communication and presentations skills needed as well as being able to operate independently. Requires US Citizen or US Person status (Green Card Holder) PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of Leidos financial systems; such as: Hyperion, Cognos, Fusion, Cobra, LPAS, and Cost Point.
