We are seeking a full-time, Senior Data Manager for our Denver, CO operations.

The selected candidate will work in a team environment and collaborate with GIS specialists, data managers, and project managers across the company, providing support for a variety of contracts and projects. This position may be a remote work location, from the United States only, however the Denver metro area is preferred.

This position involves substantial interaction with GIS specialists, project managers, field personnel, and other project stakeholders. Key responsibilities include developing data management and GIS applications, data architecture, data analysis and reporting, developing database solutions, development/setup of remote data acquisition systems, web application development, and workflow automation. These tasks support environmental and disaster management planning projects for a range of local, state, and federal clients.

Secondary responsibilities may occasionally involve field work on various projects or sites. This could include assisting project managers and field personnel with environmental sampling and assessment activities during environmental investigations or emergency response actions. Tasks may involve supporting field personnel in the collection, documentation, and management of soil and water samples, operating equipment used for field studies (excluding machinery), interpreting sample data, and helping prepare data summary reports. Field work may require overnight travel and significant outdoor work.

Responsibilities

Working under little supervision, performs analytical, technical, and/or developmental tasks as assigned, such as:

  • Examines websites and data repositories for information relevant to each project.

  • Model, map, and design data structures and data architecture for implementing databases, data marts, data warehouses, or data lakes

  • Develop data standards, policies, and roadmaps.

  • Helps the project team prepare map products, metadata, datasets, and electronic data collection tools for specific elements of Tetra Tech projects.

  • Assists in the development of data collection tools, including surveys and other quantitative and qualitative measures.

  • Design and develop solutions for data extraction, transformation, and loading.

  • Design and develop data products that fulfill project needs, such as web/desktop (mapping) applications, data portals, data dashboards, figures, tables, reports, graphs, summarizations, visualizations, analyses, etc.

  • Ensure that assigned tasks and deliverables are completed in accordance with Tetra Tech's Quality Control program requirements.

  • Develop or update documentation, such as data management plans, data related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs), various metadata, and training materials.

  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to utilize the most suitable technologies, and stay informed about industry standards, tools, and technologies in data management.

  • Develop tools to assist business users in gaining new insights and enhancing overall business performance

  • Attends both internal and external client meetings.

  • Assist in marketing activities to secure new business in environmental data management.

  • On-site and off-site GIS support for environmental sampling and emergency response activities.

  • Additional tasks as required.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of demonstrated experience with all segments of the data lifecycle, including data collection, processing, storage, management, analysis, visualization, and interpretation. In addition, you will have experience with / be:

  • A U.S. citizen

  • Must pass a U.S. Government background check for work on federal contracts.

  • Database/data warehouse/data lake design, data modeling, SQL, SQL Server/Oracle RDBMS, and NoSQL databases

  • Knowledge and application of data quality assessment, data cleansing, and data migration techniques.

  • Developing data pipelines and ETL applications

  • Ability to recognize data issues and develop remediation activities.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with business intelligence packages (Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, Microsoft Excel, etc.), databases (SQL Server, Oracle, Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB, etc), and data (programming/modeling) languages (SQL, XML, JSON, Javascript, ETL frameworks, etc).

  • Knowledge of data modeling concepts supporting complex analytical use cases and enterprise reporting.

  • Analyzing and transforming data from data repositories into different modes of data, such as Excel and Microsoft Power BI

  • Ability to organize, translate, summarize, and present data in written and oral formats.

  • Hands-on experience with ESRI desktop, ArcGIS Online, and the mobile suite of applications is a must.

Experience shall include:

  • ArcGIS Pro

  • ArcMap / ArcCatalog

  • ArcGIS Online

  • Mobile suite: Survey123, Field Maps

  • Developing web-based mapping applications (using ESRI Web AppBuilder and/or Experience Builder), Dashboards, StoryMap, Survey123 forms, and maps for use with mobile products.

  • Managing geospatial information in ESRI file geo-databases a must.

  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office 365 applications.

  • Must be adept at scheduling and conducting multiple projects at one time and working across multiple teams.

  • Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced consulting environment.

  • Demonstrate organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences both verbally and in writing.

Experience with other Desired Skills:

  • Managing geospatial information in Spatial Database Engine (SDE) highly desirable.

  • Esri ArcGIS Server, Python, Adobe Creative Suite, CAD (AutoDesk and/or Bentley), or other mapping or graphic design software is desirable.

  • Training and experience in one or more programming languages, such as Python, GO, C#, Java, etc. is a plus

  • Cloud-based environments and applications with a focus on collaborative tools and workflow automation; including MS Access, MS SharePoint tools, Power Automate, and Make (formerly Integromat).

Degree / Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Information Systems, Environmental Science, or closely related field.
  • ICS or other related training is desirable
  • 40 Hour HAZWOPER certification is desirable

Work Environment

This position is located in Denver, CO with the potential for teleworking, from the United States only. Telework is at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice. Will require occasional work on environmental cleanup sites and emergency operations center (EOC), as well as in a mobile command post (MCP). You must be able to:

  • Perform bending, kneeling, standing, lifting, and carrying objects weighing up to 40lbs.

  • Work in all outdoor environments, in a wide range of weather conditions, both hot and cold.

  • Work long days walking or standing on various, including uneven, terrain.

  • Work overtime as needed (nights and weekends).

  • Overnight travel for periods of 2 to 3 days at a time (occasionally longer) may also be required.

The Salary Range for this position is $125,000 - $150,000, depending on education, experience, skills, and location.
