The Stanford University Graduate School of Education (GSE) is seeking a full-time Data Management Specialist to work with the GSE Information Technology team to assist with our school's data management initiatives, data governance, data analysis, and to facilitate collaboration and communication among data researchers.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Data Science & Cloud Architecture will manage data governance, data strategies, and assist with data analysis projects. They will play a key role in the Graduate School of Education research data management efforts.

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Data Analysis
  • Support researchers with best practices on using data analytics tools, including data preparation, data modeling, and visualization.
  • Create complex charts and databases, perform statistical analyses, and develop graphs and tables

  • Design and customize reports based upon data in the database. Oversee and monitor regulatory compliance for utilization of the data.

  • Lead the implementation of data standards and common data elements for data collection.

  • Collaborate with technical staff to standardize and systemize routine reports, dashboards, and metrics.

  • Provide documentation based on audit and reporting criteria to investigators and research staff.

  • Serve as a resource for non-routine inquiries such as requests for statistics or surveys.

  • Data Governance

  • Establish and enforce data governance policies and procedures to ensure data accuracy, consistency, security, and compliance.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining the organization's data architecture, including databases and data warehouses.

  • Acts as the liaison between the Dean's Office, university research units, centers, and data stakeholders.

Minimum education and experience requirements include:

  • Bachelor's degree (in fields of Education Data Science or related discipline) or a combination of three years of education and relevant experience.

  • Substantial experience using and applying analytical software, database management system software, and data mining software.

  • Exceptional Interpersonal skills. Communicate with our partners in government, school districts, agencies, and industry representatives.

  • Ability to manage multiple activities in a deadline-oriented environment; highly organized, flexible and rigorous attention to detail.

Desirable qualifications include:

  • Strong analytical skills, including experience with research approaches and quantitative modeling.

  • Fluency in Python and/or R, or fluency in other scripting languages and experience in debugging them.

  • Fluency is Stata, SPSS

  • Experience with data extraction tools (SQL/NoSQL/Python) queries to answer research and analysis questions.

  • Experience with high performance/systems (HPC) languages and techniques.

  • Familiarity with academic research methodologies and protocols

  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team on multiple concurrent projects. Must be able to identify priorities and maintain awareness of multiple deadlines.

  • To be independent, proactive, and have initiative.

The expected pay range for this position is $86,000 to $115,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
