Role Overview:

While functioning as a Data Management Specialist, you will serve as a Member of the Data Management Organization (DMO) team with an excellent understanding of master data and its importance to Smith & Nephew. You will be responsible for architecture of maintenance of business critical data, and have the ability to trouble shoot issues and offer solutions, coordinate DMO help desk activities with all system users and represent DMO with-in business and system-related projects. You will influence best practices, whilst maintaining strong relationships with other areas of the business. You will demonstrate sound knowledge across both technical and functional areas of operational ERP systems. You will provide advice, guidance, and training to both colleagues and internal customers, applying data management principles and best practices, participating in discovery and documentation of current state processes, profiling data, understanding data relationships, harmonizing data elements across global systems, creating metrics and reports and participating in enterprise-wide Data Governance efforts.

Core Responsibilities:

Build Target State Architecture for Master data in Smith & Nephew (60%)

  • Lead design, development, testing and delivery of data platforms utilized to deliver information that enable customer use cases and information needs, including enterprise integration, presentation, and analytics platforms.

  • Evangelize target state architecture for master data to the business and IT leadership

  • Deliver strategic master data management projects by designing and executing on MDM roadmap

  • Implement Data Management strategy using industry and domain expertise in accordance with the mission and goals of the organization.

  • Create Single Source of Truth for Master data at the enterprise level

  • Provide resource/timeline estimations for proposed enhancements/projects.

  • Deliver proof of concept data management solutions as needed

  • Deliver effective and robust systems solutions that meet the business requirements/objectives via configuration and/or the generation of functional specifications for development.

  • Evaluate new ideas, methods, and commercial offerings to support the data strategy.

  • Strategize and solve data challenges to enable a future state data driven decision making environment within the Business teams.

Vendor Management (20%)

  • Supervise vendor delivery of master data management projects

  • Onboard and work closely with outsourcing partners and provide necessary training and best practices approach

  • Communicate with software vendors to ensure best practices are followed for software architecture

  • Manage risk identification and risk mitigation strategies associated with software architecture

Daily production support (20%)

  • Provide leadership for day to day support and ongoing operation of the systems across global sites, via a formal support model.

  • Conduct issue resolution to resolve issues identified by the business users.

  • Assess country specific needs against enablement roadmaps.

  • Recommend best course of action.

  • Manage support ticket queue and work with IT teams to resolve issues as necessary.

  • Provide supervision and mentoring to other DMO team members when resolving business as usual issues.

  • Primary lead for deploying software enhancements and fulfilling IT Change Management process requirements

Location:

Any of our US based Smith+Nephew office locations: Memphis, TN, Austin, TX, Fort Worth, TX, Pittsbugh, PA, Andover, MA, or Mansfield, MA.

Education:

Bachelors in IT, Computer or Data Science or closely related IT discipline

Masters in Information Quality or Data Science preferred

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in data quality and governance.

  • SAP experience in Master Data.

  • Advanced MS Excel skills.

  • SQL Query writing skills.

  • Experience working with data quality software, such as Informatica.

  • Expertise with global scale projects with an emphasis on data quality.

  • An excellent understanding of data management principles and best practice.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to frequent changes in priorities.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills - ability to build good relationships with virtual teams and senior leadership.

  • Recognized as a technical subject matter expert for Data Management and Data Quality
