The Patient Identity Specialist will have responsibility for coordinating the duties necessary to maintain the integrity of the Enterprise Master Person Index (eMPI) (aka Enterprise Identity Management (EIM) data for their assigned Division in accordance with established policies and procedures. This position will partner with CommonSpirit Health colleagues to research, analyze and resolve complicated and time-sensitive patient identity and associated information structures across multiple corporate data management systems and among diverse hospital and corporate departments.
Daily review of Overlays, Duplicates, Linkages and Review Identifier tasks, utilizing eMPI software in assigned Division source systems;
Triage incorrectly comingled records (Overlay), identify disparate data, determine which information belongs on each record, validating and determining required means to correct, while coordinating with Divisional stakeholders (Clinical and Non-Clinical) in a timely manner to protect patient safety;
Research Duplicates and perform the associated eMPI maintenance required according to established eMPI procedures and guidelines through the examination of patient documentation necessary to validate patient identity;
Resolve any Linkage related tasks across facilities within eMPI database tool according to established procedures and guidelines when identified as part of the Overlay, Duplicate, Linkage or Review Identifier processes;
Network as needed with outside resources, such as insurance websites, market physician office staff, etc. to determine accuracy of patient demographic data;
Notify all downstream systems/departments and supplemental software support staff of medical record number issues;
Work with Admitting and other departments to control the creation of duplicate medical record numbers through utilization of prevention software, as well as providing feedback and ongoing training;
Investigate reports of mis-identity or identity theft in close collaboration with Division Privacy Leadership and Facility Privacy teams;
Train resources for any hospital or regional department in need of training and in-service of staff on the eMPI and how it impacts and integrates with other IT systems;
Establish and maintain effective communication with other hospital and regional departments, acting as liaison for the MPI functions
Work in tandem with team members by participating in a 24/7 on-call support coverage rotation to manage overlays/merges necessary for seamless patient care and reducing patient safety risks.
Disseminate patient medical record and provider merge information to colleagues as appropriate.
Associate degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field or equivalent combination of education and/or experience required. A bachelor's degree in a healthcare related field may be used in lieu of experience.
Three (3) years of experience in a healthcare-related industry setting.
Two (2) years of experience in information management services or Master Patient Indices desired.
Demonstrated aptitude for routinely, efficiently and successfully solving exceedingly complicated information structures across multiple technology platforms and in a highly regulated business environment required.
Strong background and knowledge in medical terminology required.
Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Outlook, Word) required.
Experience using Allscripts, Cerner, GE Centricity, Epic, IBM Initiate, and Snagit.
Work experience within a hospital setting - clinical or non-clinical role.
