With the continued growth of data-dependent internal corporate, U.S. and International Financial Industry regulatory requirements, MUFG Union Bank must meet a complex and growing demand for end-to-end data governance and policy, data process and technical controls, business data accuracy, technical data integrity and technical data architecture strategies. The CIOO mandate of a Digital Enterprise further requires the bank to have a modern data platform to move data seamlessly across channels and provide valuable data insights to better serve our clients.
While Union Bank has made progress in addressing these requirements, the Bank is now recruiting a Director of Data & Integration Architecture reporting to the Chief Data & Integration Architect within Enterprise Architecture. This individual will oversee the governance of data & integration architecture, specifically focused on aligning Transformation impact with regard to Business as Usual (BAU) projects. This will include all Transformation Pillar 2 scope, including Data Governance & Operating Model, Master & Reference Data Management, Data Architecture & Platform and Data & Reporting Delivery. It will also include coordination with other high-impact and related Transformation activities, such as Core Banking Transformation and Technology Modernization, as applicable.
This position is responsible for coordinating all architecture activity including data & integration as well as solution architecture for the Transformation Pillar 2 scope. This will involve peer level leadership for a large matrixed team of architects from both Enterprise Architecture and Business Information Technology (application development).
This position is also responsible for participating in the delivery of numerous key business objectives, such as: ease of information access, regulatory enterprise reporting and capital reserve calculations, and the integration of data to other technologies and systems and on-going production support ensuring system performance and stability. The Director will also assist in overall data integrity responsibilities ensuring that information transferred from source systems remains at the highest level of data integrity throughout the course of its travels.
The position will also work closely with the Technology Strategy and Incubation function to design and implement innovative methods and technologies (data & integration) across the business application portfolios.
Responsible for assisting with, reviewing and the interpretation of business and technical requirements and understanding business data and information objectives.
Roadmap: Architecting the strategic data architecture roadmap and creating a short-, medium- and long-term implementation plan including data modeling, database design and the development of data relationship structures to meet business requirements and objectives.
Working Relationships: Work closely with business and system analysts, business and technical data users, data warehouse and system design/developers, ETL developers, the centralized technology department management team and other data stakeholders and the management team in executing specific data warehouse project tasks and responsibilities.
Data Modeling: Apply creativity in developing data model solutions that allow differing systems and line-of-business data to be integrated.
Best Practices / Systems Development Life Cycle: Maintain and enforce best practices to facilitate optimized software development, ETL transfer of information, data modeling and database design.
Systems and Data Knowledge Acquisition: Understand existing source systems data transfer methodologies and technology in order to assess support and delivery of information through the data warehouse or data service layers.
Data Integration: Responsible for recommending/designing the future integration of data into the Bank's business process model through the use of ETL, API's, XML and appropriate technologies.
Master Data Management (MDM): Develops strategies for data acquisition, archiving and recovery, implementation and data grouping and categorization as a basis for implementing master data management as part of the data architecture roadmap.
Data Management Tools: Assist in the evaluation and selection of tools which support the data architecture roadmap.
Data Architecture Support: Support and monitor the implementation of new data architecture software releases to ensure stability and accuracy of the implementation.
Data Management Office Policy and Practice: Work directly and closely with the Chief Data Officer to facilitate the definition of, and enforcement of Data Governance policies and practices.
Integration Architecture: Establish the next generation integration and workflow capability including API management and rationalize the various existing integration capabilities to establish a comprehensive integration framework for cloud and internally hosted systems
Business Process Management: Establish a BPM reference architecture and support the creation of a shared services framework to facilitate automation and straight through processing
Enterprise Content Management: Establish an ECM framework and reference architecture to improve the management of content and compliance to records management policies
Team Management: Lead and direct the work of others on either a direct management reporting or dotted-line facilitation basis.
Project and Major Initiative Support: Support data flow processes, end-to-end, for projects and major initiatives including troubleshooting of data issues through the process of information transfer, data model design, access to the information, querying of data and performance/speed resulting from data issues.
Education: B.A, M.A, or PhD in a combination of either liberal arts and technology, computer science, or business.
Communication: Skilled and passionate verbal and written communicator.
5-10 years of Data Modeling, Data Integration, Data Warehousing and Database Design, Data Quality Assurance, Big Data experience and Cloud Technology
Work Experience: Previous work experience within large, centralized information technology departments for 10+ years, ideally in the financial services industry.
Design: Ability to design and develop Databases, Data Warehouses and Multi-dimensional Databases.
Technology Management: 10-15 years of experience with managing database technologies and direct experience with data warehousing is highly desirable.
Practitioner: Must have a strong command of broad and general technical concepts.
Analysis: Must be a very strong problem solver and apply strong critical analysis to business scenarios in the context of data architecture.
Vendor Management: Experience in managing and working with consulting vendors/service providers during the delivery of technology projects.
Time Management and Delivery: Must possess and demonstrate excellent time management skills with the ability to achieve results in a very deadline driven environment, and must be focused on quality and delivering on commitments.
Extract, Transform & Load (ETL): 5-10 years of ETL experience, preferably with development level experience.
Configuration Management: Prefer 2 years of experience with software tools that support enterprise configuration management.
Corporate and Team Fit: Team player, strong collaborative approach, with the ability to work independently.
