Your job.

Indeed is seeking a Data Developer in the product engineering organization with a focus on Data Governance. You are the owner for data within a division of the company. You will work closely with the Data Governance Analysts of your business area to understand the data your team relies on, create data pipelines, and outline how data is to be migrated/integrated to best serve the business functions. Your team will rely on you to own the data they use to make decisions, perform analysis, and track progress.

Data Developers at Indeed must be an expert in data pipelining, data curation and maintaining the integrity of data. You will need database development skills, technical knowledge of our data pipeline, and excellent communication skills.


  • Lead and maintain all data migrations, data modeling and ETL efforts for your business unit

  • Partner with product and engineering teams to define requirements for capturing/logging/curating new data; coordinate with product and engineering on new product lines to ensure all new data created is incorporated into our data governance model

  • You will be the owner and subject matter expert for critical data within a business unit at Indeed

  • Work with a set of stakeholders and analysts to identify the data required to operate an area of the business. Define what it means to have complete and accurate data

  • Drive consistency of data across front (web app, 3rd party tool) and back end systems (application to application)

  • Serve as the internal expert for data quality and data lineage for your business unit.

  • Manage the migration of existing reports to use certified datasets

  • Contribute to the development of training materials and deliver / coach 1 on 1 or small groups on the new processes across the data governance lifecycle

  • Work as part of a team of data governance analysts to ensure consistent data use across the entire company

About you.


  • 2+ Years of SQL. Must have the ability to write complex, highly-optimized queries across large volumes of data

  • 2+ years of solid Python programming skills to cleanse, manipulate, and present data, particularly using Pandas and Numpy

  • 2+ years of Industry experience in a report development, data science, business analytics, business intelligence or comparable data engineering role, including data warehousing and business intelligence tools, techniques and technology

  • B.S. degree in math, statistics, computer science, or equivalent technical field

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and comfort presenting to everyone from entry-level employees to senior vice presidents

  • Knowledge of data governance best practices, business and technology issues related to management of enterprise information assets, and approaches related to data protection.

  • Knowledge of ETL and data warehouse concepts and processes

  • Experience validating datasets for accuracy (Data QA) and working with stakeholders to fix accuracy issues.

  • Curiosity and passion about data, visualization and solving problems

  • Creativity to determine the best solution for a real-world problem with quantitative data

  • Experience with reporting, descriptive statistics, probability, and cleaning big datasets

  • Willingness to question the validity, accuracy of data and assumptions

  • Enjoyment from collaborating with others in team environment

  • Eagerness to learn in a fast-paced environment

  • Drive and self-reliance

What we'd love to see (but isn't required):

  • Experience with Tableau or equivalency to create impactful reports, visualizations, and interactive dashboards

  • Exposure to tools used to support data management, specifically business glossary and metadata management, data profiling, and data quality.

  • Experience interpreting webapp logs, analytics tags and analytics debugging tools

The role will define and own the Data Governance process within the Enterprise Analytics Team. The right candidate will advocate for a connected ecosystem of data, technology, tools, people and processes. Working with leaders of the larger Enterprise Analytics Team, you will take a collaborative approach with each Business partner and Tech to ensure there is a cohesive data & analytics strategy. You will outline and then execute a plan to tackle the four main components to data governance: availability, visibility/usability, integrity and protection/security. The new Enterprise Analytics Governance Team will be the driving force to enable a mature data governance process at Whole Foods. Will Do: * Build and lead the Enterprise Data Governance Team. * Organize the current federated efforts into a single roadmap to Define, Create and then Drive the Data Governance Process focusing on the business perspective and maintaining One Version of the Truth. * Collaborate with Tech and each business partner to define data usage, definition standards and maintain The Data Dictionary in a format to enable both reference and technical controls. * Team up with change enablement team to manage and communicate changes in data availability, visibility and integration with end users. * Work with Tech and source entities to raise the bar for data integrity within the enterprise. * Coordinate with data stewards to understand, document and adhere to a new data usage policy. * Collaborate with Tech and data stewards on the implementation of tracking processes for approvals, and exceptions approvals. * Work with Legal, Compliance and Tech to develop and socialize data usage, handling and security policies. * Establish and coordinate quarterly/monthly meetings with Sr. Leadership to socialize data governance progress. Must Haves: * Bachelor's degree with 6+years relevant experience in a data-driven, Governance-focused business, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
