Data Governance Engineer

This position requires the proven experience, strong skillset and enhanced capability to work closely with leaders at various levels with the organization and be successful in the delivery of Data Governance education, awareness and training at Asurion.

The ideal candidate will have the knowledge to enhance the program's brand and work with teams across the company to communicate, implement and establish the brand, while also accomplishing the goals of the Data Governance program.

This position will also work closely with technology, business and data stewards to understand data requirements and to articulate those needs clearly into a standardized deliverable.


  • Responsible for overall data governance standards and procedures administration, including planning, creation and implementation of a new centralized repository

  • Support for Enterprise Data Steward in the development and implementation of working standards, processes and procedures

  • Coordinate and conduct education, awareness and training efforts

  • Support for documenting business term definitions, standardizing derivations and usage business rules

  • Develop, maintain and update department process documentation

  • Develop and maintain data governance technical and project documentation

  • Build consensus for Data Governance and Stewardship across Asurion

  • Ensures that Data Governance processes are aligned with enterprise processes and business goals

  • Support for Data Governance board and committee meetings agenda and presentations

  • Ensure that all project deliverables are consistent with Asurion technical architecture and policies, standards and procedures

  • Support for the identification, development and communication of data metrics and key performance indications

  • Recommend changes to processes to make data stewardship for effective and efficient

  • Prepare and deliver timely project status reports

  • Work directly with stewards on Data Quality improvement opportunities

  • Identifies data challenges and issues about data quality and Assist in data issue triage

  • Identify ways to improve how Asurion gets value from its data

  • Continuously analyzes data risk, develops mitigation strategies and drives resolution

  • Identification of critical data elements to bring under governance

  • Build consensus around data usage amongst data stewards representing business areas

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related field

  • 3 or more years of data governance or project management experience required

  • Demonstrated excellence and expertise in written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent technical analysis and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to establish, build and maintain relationships across the organization

  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to explain highly technical information in a way that establishes rapport and credibility; garners understanding and acceptance; and persuades buy-in and action

  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills required

  • Time management skills with the ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects in a cross functional environment

Preferred Experience

  • Experience using any type of Metadata management tool

  • Familiar with data governance concept, methodology and process

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Project and Visio

  • Experience creating Physical and Logical design documents or Detailed Design documents

  • Experience with cloud technologies and architecture including AWS

  • Proven ability to coordinate and execute a successful data stewardship program

  • Effective leadership, planning and motivational skills

  • Ability to be assertive and affect positive change in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while maintaining a positive approach with peers and subordinates

  • Ability to work in and understand different software delivery methodologies (i.e. Agile, Waterfall, etc.)

  • Experience in problem solving and negotiation
