Our partneris seeking an experienced Data Engineer to provide support to a Department of Defense (DoD) Office of Inspector General (OIG) customer.The Data Engineer will integrate as part of a team focused on developing data efficiencies to facilitate the OIG's ability to discharge its oversight role of identifying waste, fraud and abuse across the DoD enterprise. This individual will leverage experience and expertise in data engineering tools, with an emphasis on Hadoop and R, to lead the architecting of a new framework and solution to efficiently and effectively track large amounts of data relevant to the OIG's oversight function, with particular implications for supply chain security across DoD.This position is eligible for remote work, with quarterly meetings anticipated at client site in Alexandria, VA.

Responsibilities

    • Support and maintain infrastructure for a variety of big data applications including HDFS, Hadoop, and Spark.
    • Investigate and resolve system deterioration and/or failures, develops techniques to resolve hardware, software, and networking problems in system components
    • Ability to maintain elevated rights on the DoD OIG network
    • Analyze system performance, benchmark data, and system configuration for maximum performance
    • Assist with regular training sessions and maintain open office hours for teams to directly ask for analytics software support

Qualifications

    • Active DoD Secret Clearance
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field and 7+ years of relevant experience
    • Exposure to data management systems and statistical packages such as Cloudera, Hortonworks, Hadoop, Spark, and/or R
    • Exposure to creating sustainable, automated processes for data analysis using tools such as Airflow and HDFS
    • Must be able to acquire and maintain one of the following certifications: CompTIA Security +, SCNP, or a SSCP

Desired Qualifications

    • Experience with Hive, PIG, Sqoop, and Flume
    • Experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP) within R, Spark, SAS programming

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Responsible for designing and building systems to collect and process data (and events) at massive scale. The data is used for a variety of purposes from business insights to application(s) monitoring. * Conducts and coordinates the design and implementation of software development to meet user requirements. * Performs quality assurance activities such as peer reviews. * Support Operations and Maintenance (O&amp;M) tasks for all application programs and assist with analyzing and troubleshooting production issues. * Analyze business requirements and create technical specifications, develops unit test plans to verify functionality of new and or revised applications. * Develops technical design specifications for application development. * Guides the work of Junior and Journeyman Data Engineers Work Experience: * A Minimum 10 years of experience in complete software development lifecycle using Agile methodologies * 7+ years of Java or Scala development experience * Experience with at least one of the following technologies: * <li>Batch and distributed stream processing methods such as Apache Spark and Kafka * Distributed NoSQL/Key-Value stores such as HBase, Cassandra, or DynamoDB * Distributed search engines like Elasticsearch or Solr * Restful web services experience with code development, deployment, versioning, and build tools (e.g. Eclipse, Git, Gradle, Maven, Jenkins) * Understanding of Microservices architecture, including professional experience in the design, build, and operations of micro services in a production environment * 5+ years of experience with Relational Database Systems and SQL * 3+ years of experience with UNIX/Linux and shell scripting * 1+ years of experience developing containerized applications using Docker, Docker Swarm, Kubernetes * Experience delivering solutions using Amazon Web Services (AWS EC2, RDS, S3, VPC) Job Skills: * Knowledge and experience in software development with the identified technologies * Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office including Excel, Office, etc. * Comprehensive problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail * Willingness to learn, evolve and multi-task.
