Our location in Columbus, OH, currently has an opportunity for a Data Engineer, Research Scientist. In Research & Development (R&D) our ambition is providing innovative high-quality products, creating sustainable value, delivering superior user experience and enhancing health outcomes at all stages of life.

Main Purpose of Role

This position is positioned to address increasing PR&D business needs for maintaining data security and performing advanced analytics, such as leveraging AI technology to improve the PR&D innovation process.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Major Responsibilities

  • Create advanced data models to address R&D use cases, such as predicting and preventing product defects using machine learning AI.

  • Create and maintain a standardized data dictionary to communicate data across the organization.

  • Translate technical requirements between R&D and IT for implementing process automation.

  • Work with IT to execute data ETL (extract, transform, load) from source systems into quality data marts within MS Azure.

  • Distribute data from source systems, such as AS400 and LIMS, into PLM and manufacturing systems, such as DevEx and InfinityQS (ProFicient).

  • Apply scientific knowledge on data modeling, data analytics, predictive algorithms, and other data science principles to create concepts, develop prototypes and generate insight from data.

  • Create and implement machine learning algorithms and advanced statistics such as: regression, time-series forecasting, clustering, decision trees, exploratory data analysis methodology, simulation, scenario analysis, modeling, optimization, unstructured data analysis, and neural networks

  • As necessary, cleanse data for future data analytics activities.

Minimum Education/Professional Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Preferably related to Data Science, Business Analytics, Math, or Computer Science

Preferred:

  • PhD in Computer Science or equivalent, 7+ year(s) of experience

  • Experience in creating and implementing machine learning algorithms and advanced statistics such as: regression, time-series forecasting, clustering, decision trees, exploratory data analysis methodology, simulation, scenario analysis, modeling, optimization, unstructured data analysis, and neural networks

  • Strong work ethic, self-motivated and internally driven

  • Excellent project management skills

  • Experience leading organizations to new adopting new analytical applications

The Matrix Sciences Research Group designs and executes custom projects for our food industry clients. Why it matters: This work assists our clients evaluating the safety, stability, or the processing of foods. These projects may support R&D, marketing, or regulatory compliance. Role summary: The Research Scientist role will be responsible for the scheduling, execution, and data analysis of projects related to Food Microbiology and Safety. Additionally, the role may help draft proposals and reports and assist in the routine laboratory as required. This is a full-time, hourly position. What you'll do: * Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. * Support project scheduling based on provided plan and proposals. * Execute on lab activities associated with assigned Research projects, including: * Media preparation and sample preparation (inoculating, plating, or otherwise manipulating samples) * Execution of testing protocols according to plan, including operation of conventional microbiology laboratory equipment and food processing equipment. * Data analysis: including basic statistics and graphing in Excel * Identify, document, communicate and respond to any non-conformities with instrumentation, samples and methodologies or deviations from plan or policy, relaying updates to the Director of Research. Support troubleshooting activities, assessment of root cause and corrective actions. * Process routine and non-routine tests for the routine microbiology laboratory if required. * Draft proposals and/or result reports for review when required. * Follow written Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions. * Other duties may be assigned to assist with the operations of the lab. * Participate in review and revision of applicable Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions. * Monitor supply levels and order consumables as needed for projects. What you have: * Bachelor's degree with 2-year relevant experience or Master's degree in an applicable field. * Knowledge of microbiological test methodologies * Work experience with project planning * Ability to distinguish colors as required for Microbiology testing. * Demonstrated ability to work with a team. * Positive outlook with the ability to adapt to a changing environment.
