Data Engineer

Progyny is looking for a Data Engineer to join the Business Strategy and Analytics (BSA) team in New York City. Our team is at the forefront of developing the reporting and forecasting capabilities directly influencing strategic development of the nation's leading fertility benefits management company. In this role, as a data engineer, you will help us design and build a comprehensive, business-focused, data warehouse serving as the source of truth for all analytical functions across this org as well as Progyny as a whole. You will have a unique opportunity to shape the architecture of the warehouse and all associated data flows from the ground up, working with key stakeholders across all business functions as well as Information Architecture (IA) to arrive at an efficient and sustainable data landscape.

What you'll do...

• Apply knowledge of modern data transformation methods and tools to build efficient, reliable data pipelines for all the key dimensional and transactional data in Progyny

• Work with stakeholders across the business and IA to design data structures that balance data retrieval efficiency with maintainability, and understand the implications of tradeoffs made between those goals

• Monitor and measure pipeline stability and help pioneer data quality routines to ensure proactive reliability of the data in the warehouse

• Work to evolve and adapt the structure of the warehouse to accommodate new strategic goals, business models, and other upstream changes in Progyny's data landscape

• Experience growth opportunities into distributed computing techniques, ML operations, and other modern concerns in the growing scope of data engineering

About you...

• You have 4+ years of relevant experience building and maintaining production ETL pipelines

• You have a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information System, or other related field of study

• 4+ years of consistent, professional SQL development experience (any SQL variant is fine)

• 2+ years of Python development experience

• 2+ years of experience with industry-accepted orchestration tools / platforms (Airflow, for example, but there are tons of other options)

• Familiarity with data modelling best practices / efficient data structures

• Familiarity with Spark

• Strong communication skills and an ability to walk a technical audience through the reasoning behind design choices

In compliance with New York City's Wage Transparency Law, the annual salary [wage] range for NYC-based applicants is: $145,000 - $155,000. There are a variety of factors that go into determining a salary range, including but not limited to external market benchmark data, geographic location, and years of experience sought/required. Progyny offers a total compensation package comprised of base salary, cash bonus, and equity.
