Here's what you'll do:

  • Be an owner as you architect, build, and refine our data infrastructure technologies, using our development workflow the outcome of your work will drive decisions that affect billions of dollars of transactions

  • Build and refine a fault-tolerant data ingestion pipeline into our data warehouse, while helping guide the decisions about the future of our data infrastructure

  • Thoroughly evaluate edge cases, ambiguities, and architectural scalability

  • Write complex and efficient queries to transform raw data sources into easily accessible models for our teams (e.g., Product, Growth, Finance, Risk)

  • Work with data scientists to productize and develop predictive modeling pipelines

  • Care deeply about helping millions of small business owners focus on what they love

  • Be surrounded by people who are doing the best work of their lives and loving every moment of it

Here's what we're looking for:

  • At least 5 years of software engineering experience (Python, Ruby or Java), with at least 2 years experience in a data focused role

  • Passion for creating data infrastructure technologies from scratch using the right tools for the job

  • Experience building and maintaining a data warehouse in production environments

  • Experience with AWS tools

  • Expertise in building out data pipelines, efficient ETL design, implementation, and maintenance

  • Experience with systems for transforming large datasets such as Spark and Hadoop

  • Ability to turn vague requirements into clear deliverables with minimal guidance

  • Exposure to statistical and data mining techniques

Job Description The Data Engineer role falls into the Data & Analytics practice area at CapTech, through which our consultants provide a broad spectrum of services to help our clients define and implement a strategy to deliver lasting and mission-critical information capabilities. Our Data Engineering consultants bridge the gap between the business and IT side of companies. By partnering with clients to fully understand both their business philosophy and IT strategy, CapTech consultants maintain the vision that data integration should be built to help the organization make better decisions by providing the right data at the right time. Responsibilities Specific responsibilities for the Data Engineer position include: * Design, develop, document, and test advanced data systems that bring together data from disparate sources, making it available to data scientists, analysts, and other users. * Evaluate structured and unstructured datasets utilizing statistics, data mining, and predictive analytics to gain additional business insights. * Design, develop, and implement data processing pipelines at scale. * Present programming documentation and design to team members and convey complex information in a clear and concise manner. * Collaborate with Quality Assurance resources to debug code and ensure the timely delivery of products. * Write and refine code to ensure performance and reliability of data extraction and processing. * Participate in requirements gathering sessions with business and technical staff to distill technical requirements from business requests. * Partner with clients to fully understand business philosophy and IT Strategy; recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and reliability. * Communicate with all levels of stakeholders as appropriate, including executives, data modelers, application developers, business users, and customers. * Passion and desire to learn new technologies and methodologies. Qualifications Specific qualifications for the Data Engineer position include: * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, MIS or equivalent combination of education and experience * Strong SQL development skills. * Demonstrated knowledge of Python language and ecosystem. * Software engineering best-practices, including version control (e.g. Git, TFS, JIRA) and test-driven development. * Development experience with multiple relational database platforms (e.g. Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server). * Exposure to various NoSQL database platforms (e.g. Neo4j, MongoDB, Redis) and understanding of use cases. * Development experience with multiple programming languages (e.g. C#, Java). * Minimum of 3 years experience designing, developing, tuning, and testing ETL/ELT interfaces aligned with defined requirements (e.g. SSIS, Informatica, Ab Initio). * Exposure to Business Intelligence and visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI, MicroStrategy, QlikView, SpotFire). * Experience with MDM/RDM products and methodologies. * General understanding of modern cloud platforms and serverless architectures. * Development experience with Unix tools and shell scripting (e.g. bash, PowerShell). * Experience with relevant open source Apache projects a plus (e.g. Spark, NiFi, Cassandra, Kafka).
