Job Description:

Best Made is seeking a Data Engineer to build and scale its data infrastructure. This critical role will own all facets of the ETL process, including maintaining the data pipeline, building new API integrations, and developing complex data models that provide actionable data for teams across the organization. The perfect candidate is excited to both drive a long term vision for data democracy and be in the weeds writing code and developing systems. This position reports to the Head of Technology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and build out new API integrations to support continuing increases in data volume and complexity

  • Collaborate with analytics and business teams to improve data models that feed business intelligence tools, increasing data accessibility and fostering data-driven decision making across the organization

  • Implement processes and systems to monitor data quality, ensuring our production data is always accurate and available for key stakeholders and business processes that depend on it

  • Write unit/integration tests, contribute to our engineering wiki, and document your work

  • Perform data analysis required to troubleshoot data related issues and assist in the resolution of data issues

  • Work closely with a team of frontend and backend engineers, product managers, and analysts

Who You Are:

  • 6+ years of experience with ETL frameworks, data warehouse design and data modeling

  • Experience with the AWS suite of data products (ie Redshift, S3, etc) and iPaaS solutions (ie Celigo, Talend, MuleSoft, Dell Boomi, etc)

  • Experience with one or more general purpose programming languages and command line/git (Python etc)

  • Expert with writing advanced SQL (ie window functions, subqueries, complex joins)

  • Strong analytical skills with experience in solving data related issues

  • Can communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Strong bias for action; ability to juggle multiple competing priorities and create a sense of urgency in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

  • Know that true, lasting quality only stems from an inordinate attention to detail

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, similar technical field of study or equivalent practical experience

  • Previous success in a high growth environment preferred

  • Background in e-commerce related applications preferred

  • Hands on experience with Netsuite, Shopify Plus, Solidus (Ruby on Rails) preferred

The Role The Information Technology Department ensures the stability and integrity of the institute's in-house network infrastructure and services. Reporting to the Director of Technology Advancement and Operations and working closely with NY-based IT staff, the Cloud Architect's responsibilities include the following * Collaborate with stakeholders (research team, IT & PMO team, etc.) to develop the logical and physical design of IT infrastructure (hybrid and cloud based) to support a diverse ecosystem of research applications. * Works with IT team to review compliance of data security for research applications, network and cloud infrastructure, and data storage. * Makes recommendations for existing research data models and applications that may include designing and deploying solutions for efficiency and migration. * Participates in vendor selection for the deployment of data solutions as needed. * Partner with Research and IT team to collect and manage diverse codeset on Gitbhub. * As a subject matter expert provides leadership and technical counseling to IT staff and research users as necessary. * Perform other duties as assigned. What qualifications do you need * 8 years or more of previous experience designing and deploying cloud solutions. * Previous work with research and/or data science teams a major plus. * Familiar with major cloud platforms (AWS preferred) * Familiar with database administration (Microsoft SQL preferred) * Demonstrated ability to architect secure cloud deployments through best practice use of secure networks, encryption (as needed), user management, and security policy. * Familiar with a portion of our current technology stack (Windows Server, Active Directory, R, Python, & Linux) * Strong organizational, collaboration, and analytical skills required. * Bachelors Degree (or higher) in Computer Science and/or programming experience is highly desirable.
