As the Data Engineer, you will support data-driven decision-making in Wake County by:
Developing and maintaining operationalized data pipelines for data science and data analysis
Working closely with departmental business analysts and subject matter experts to understand the requirements and translate that into an automated and optimized data model
Evangelist for data governance, security and storage best practices
Learning and using modern data preparation, integration, and AI-enabled metadata management tools and techniques
For positions with a remote work option, all Wake County Government remote workers must reside in one of the following states or districts: North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas or Virginia.

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics/Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or related field
Two years of experience in data science and analytics
Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)
Experience with data automation tools [MuleSoft, Azure, others]
Solid experience with popular database programming languages including [SQL, PL/SQL, others] for relational databases and certifications on upcoming [NoSQL/Hadoop oriented databases like MongoDB, Cassandra, others] for nonrelational databases
Solid knowledge and experience with advanced analytics tools for Object-oriented/object function scripting using languages such as [R, Python, Java, C++, Scala, others]
Basic experience in working with [data governance/data quality] and [data security] teams and specifically [information stewards] and [privacy and security officers] in moving data pipelines into production with appropriate data quality, governance and security standards and certification
How Will We Know You're 'The One'?
Skill in working with popular data discovery, analytics and BI software tools like [Tableau, Qlik, PowerBI and others] for semantic-layer-based data discovery
Skill in understanding popular open-source and commercial data science platforms such as [Python, R, KNIME, Alteryx and others] is a great plus but not required/compulsory
Knowledge of data management and optimization best practices
Ability to communicate and work with business subject matter experts and organizational leadership
Ability to communicate technical information well, both written and oral and make effective public presentations and to translate business needs into technical specifications to design, build and deploy business analysis solutions
