The Research and Development team builds and maintains the computers, networks, data storage, operating systems, and software that allows our trading strategies to run worldwide 24/7. Hudson River Trading (HRT) is looking for a mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) expert to support concurrent projects for the design and delivery of our data centers. In this role, you will serve as the direct interface between HRT and our data center partners (including power generation and delivery), for new site builds, expansions, or refurbishments of existing facilities. You will drive site usage efficiency as well as new site selection and designs to deliver cost-effective data center capacity to support AI workloads in R&D computing environments.

The ideal candidate is a senior multi-disciplinary data center design engineer with a strong electrical and mechanical background. The global nature of this position requires strong communication, people, and project management skills. You will join an interdisciplinary team made up of several groups across Hudson River Trading's Research and Development team and external data center operators. This is a highly impactful role where you will contribute to one of the world's most sophisticated research computing environments on a daily basis.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop, implement, and manage Data Center (DC) electrical designs at site, from Basis of Design (BOD) to Issued for Construction (IFC) documents for new projects build outs, infrastructure upgrades, and renovations

  • Participate in new technology insertions to provide site-specific requirements during the development of site-specific BOD

  • Manage all site-level power system issues during the project execution phase. Maintain all DC-related electrical system design requirements and interface documents during the DC lifecycle

  • Contribute to all site capital projects, from greenfield construction to major modification of existing infrastructures

  • Support the preparation of all types of documents, including Statement of Work (SOW), Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analysis, drawing mark-ups, budget, schedule, final startup/commissioning reports, review and acceptance of as-builts, and review of submittals

  • Lead and manage projects or other design and engineering initiatives. Provide guidance and engineering leadership to ensure initiatives are meeting or exceeding company expectations

  • Work with the colocation providers' engineering teams to ensure electrical systems are adequately designed, specified, and installed to deliver robust operation for HRT

  • Provide expert input on effective contract administration, including generation/review of contracts, change orders, cost forecasts, and other pertinent documentation

  • Support data center services and operations teams in defining electrical system design requirements for multiple projects, from inception through completion

  • Oversee the environmental conditions of the data center, ensuring optimal temperature, humidity, and power supply levels are maintained

  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Analysis: Utilize CFD to analyze airflow, temperature, and environmental conditions within the data center environment, providing recommendations for optimal performance and efficiency

  • Conduct research on emerging technologies and advocate for the adoption of innovative solutions to enhance data center functionality and efficiency.

Skills

  • 5+ years of practical experience in mission-critical facility design, including construction, data center design, and commissioning of medium/low voltage electrical distribution and/or AC/DC systems

  • Experience with liquid cooling deployment is a plus

  • Strong organization, communication, and project management skills

  • Ability to balance multiple competing priorities while maintaining close attention to detail

  • Self-starter and a team player; motivated to work independently and improve processes wherever possible

  • Eager to learn and apply new skills quickly

  • Willing to travel and work occasional evening hours and weekends

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, power engineering, a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience
