Data Center and Security Infrastructure Designer (low voltage)

Job Description

A Data Center and Security Infrastructure Designer will manage and deploy communications infrastructure systems in our data centers and company locations. They collaborate with internal and external teams during the construction, implementation, and deployment process. They should have a working knowledge of cabling requirements for other low-voltage systems, such as security, fire alarm/suppression and access control. They travel regularly to oversee the progress of ongoing projects and ensure quality control is maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in meetings with Design and Construction teams to document structured cabling and other telecommunication scope needs.

  • Review and develop project scopes of work.

  • Produce construction documentation, including symbol schedules, plan sheets with symbols and conduit, raceway riser and cable tray details.

  • Outside Plant (OSP) design and coordination with other related trades.

  • Low-voltage and fiber optics cable sizing and routing.

  • MDF/IDF room layouts, power and cooling coordination with project MEP Engineers.

  • Create functional/schematic diagrams, path panel layouts, grounding details, demark details, etc.

  • Redline markups of plans, sections, elevations and details for design and construction team

  • Create and maintain a knowledge base of detailed specifications, including the research and selection of equipment, writing installation procedures, and submittal requirements.

  • Create project bills of materials, and other related costs.

  • Review and approve change orders, product substitutions and other documentation.

  • Participate in interviews for low-voltage contractors.

  • Interact with the architect and construction contractors during design phase, including response to RFI's, submittal reviews, etc.

  • Visit project sites to evaluate workmanship and design intent, compose survey reports and guide contractors.

  • Remain current and up to date on BICSI and industry standards, construction trends and new technologies, through personal diligence and 3rd party training.

  • Up to 60% travel may be required.

  • Foster open, respectful and professional communication directly within the team and with co-workers/teammates and leaders across the organization.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree is required, Bachelor's degree strongly preferred, with a focus on Business, Engineering or Construction is favored.

  • Five (5) years consulting or contracting experience in the design and implementation of telecommunication systems, spaces and cable plant projects.

  • Familiarity with BICSI TDMM manuals, ANSI/TIA standards and current industry design practices is desired

  • Field experience with hyper-scale data centers, fiber optic and copper data cabling is preferred.

  • RCDD certification is required

  • Other BICSI certifications (ITS, DC, OSP); a plus.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Vision.

  • Modest AutoCAD an asset; experience with Revit is preferred.

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to multitask in a fast paced, deadline driven work environment.

  • Ability to lift and move loads 50 Lbs.

  • Ability to safely operate and utilize heavy equipment (Boom lifts/scissor lifts)

  • Intimate knowledge of IT services, hardware, infrastructure & systems architecture.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • PMP or CAPM certification a plus

This job operates in a remote environment. This position frequently uses computers, tablets and smartphones.

Physical Demands

This position frequently sits and stands for most of the day.

Position Type/ Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. General hours of work are Monday - Friday, 8a-5p. However, evenings and weekends may be required.

Travel

30 % travel may be required.
