As Ohio's Secretary of State, Frank LaRose is doing his part to deliver a thriving democracy and a prosperous economy for all Ohioans. In his role as the state's chief elections officer, he is working to ensure that Ohio's elections are both secure and accessible. And, as the first stop for new businesses in the Buckeye State, he is assisting entrepreneurs as they receive articles of incorporation for a new business.
What You'll Do:
The Data Analyst is responsible for researching and identifying complex business problems and opportunities, collaborating with stakeholders to define priorities and risks, and extracting and validating data from multiple sources.
Research and Problem Identification
Researches and identifies complex business problems and opportunities
Collaborates with business subject matter experts, IT staff, and agency leaders to define priorities, resources, and risks
Performance Metrics and Data Extraction
Identifies relevant performance metrics
Extracts data from multiple sources and systems
Identifies and catalogs appropriate data sources (e.g., agency data files, shared data lake, purchased databases)
Accesses databases and other source systems
Coordinates with business subject matter experts and IT staff to ensure the validity and completeness of data models and transformations
Statistical Analysis and Visualization
Applies statistical analysis and visualization techniques to identify data trends and relationships
Utilizes analytics techniques (e.g., regression, correlation, cluster analysis, classification, data quality, data mining, machine learning, data visualization) to discover, confirm, and document associations, predictive models, and algorithms
Business Solutions and Insights
Recommends actionable business solutions and insights impacting agency goals and objectives
Applies analytical results to address practical business problems and opportunities in a format accessible to non-technical staff and stakeholders
Provides guidance to business leaders regarding the interpretation and applicability of findings in a business context (e.g., program effectiveness, resource allocation, utilization patterns, fraud detection)
Presents summary findings and recommendations to agency leaders
Operationalizes analytics processes
Collaboration and Deployment
Collaborates with IT staff to select deployment methods
Establishes measurement and reporting of performance metrics
Identifies and documents best practices
Trains peers and business staff in the use of analytics tools and techniques
Remains current with relevant innovations and industry direction
Protocol Development and Survey Administration
Assists the Senior Data Analyst in developing protocols for responding to internal and external data requests
Creates and administers surveys for data collection from external parties
Data Review and Standardization
Improves and standardizes data review processes
Collaborates with the Senior Data Analyst on List Maintenance projects

Required
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field
Minimum of 18 months experience with data analytics, statistical analysis, and data visualization software
Proficiency in writing and executing SQL queries
Preferred
Experience with business intelligence (BI) and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI, Cognos)
Proficiency in coding and reporting languages such as Python or R
Previous experience in a similar role or industry
Certifications in relevant software or methodologies (e.g., SAS, SPSS certification)
Knowledge
