It is the mission of the Office of Institutional Research and Analysis to define, collect, maintain, analyze, and disseminate official institutional data. This office complies with federal and state mandated reporting requirements, participates in national surveys, administers student surveys, and publishes data pertaining to students, graduates, and employees. Data is made available to internal and external stakeholders for the purposes of informing decision-making, strategic planning, budgeting, and to measure effectiveness.

Description of Job
The Data Analyst is responsible for extracting and processing periodic census and final standard reporting data sets; compiling and submitting the Student Unit Record Data System (SURDS) data to the Colorado Department of Higher Education (CDHE); and supporting other CDHE data requests. The position also is responsible for collecting data definitions and validating reporting data; creating and maintaining a central repository of standard longitudinal institutional data; analyzing data and producing routine standard data summaries of enrollment, courses, admission, degree completion, human resources and other reports in response to federal, state, and external agencies, including Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS); processing data requests; using visual presentation tools including Tableau to produce charts and maps for internal use and the website and regular enrollment updates; compiling summaries of student data for the Common Data Set, program reviews, and website; leading or supporting other institutional research and data collection efforts as needed; and acting as a part of the university data management and governance team.
Primary Duties
Data Management
Extract and process periodic census and final standard reporting data sets; collect data definitions and validate reporting data; ensure data quality and collaborate with offices responsible for correcting data errors; create and maintain a central repository of standard longitudinal institutional data for official reporting; maintain system practices in data governance while administering this data. Administer, analyze, and report results from student surveys.
Respond to Data Requests
Respond to information requests of internal and external information users and stakeholders by compiling and analyzing institutional data and producing results for administrative units, academic units, and other key functional areas in the university as well as state and federal agencies.
Data Presentation
Design and maintain interactive visual dashboards based on official data to standardize the mission-critical and periodic institutional reports for quick information retrieval in user-friendly formats and provide longitudinal comparisons. Maintain updated dashboards, and other information on the Institutional Research website which emphasizes visual presentation of data.
Data Reporting
Analyze and summarize data to meet precise federal reporting criteria for national surveys such Common Data Set, and U.S. News & World Report. Data summaries include enrollments, courses, admissions, degree completion, human resources, and other data sets. Also responsible for accomplishing the institution's Federal reporting requirements (e.g., IPEDS) as well as those of the State (SURDS, CDHE FTE, etc.).
Ancillary Duties:
Support other institutional research and data collection efforts as needed.
Salary Range
$58,000-$62,000

Minimum Qualifications
Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution, with coursework and emphasis in a quantitative area of study
Excellent written communication skills
Experience in a position or activity that required knowledge in relational database management and basic concepts in data analysis including experience with statistical tools (R, SAS, SPSS, etc.) and inferential statistics
Experience that required the ability to learn new software and general front-end reporting tools
Experience in a position or activity that required excellent verbal communication skills
Experience or commitment to working with diverse populations
Experience in a position or activity that required the ability to prioritize and to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Demonstrated expertise with attention to detail
Experience in IPEDS, SURDS, or other web-based online data management and reporting
Experience supporting institutional research efforts with specific experience in database management
Experience using SQL, advanced level MS Access, or visual programming
Experience with data visualization tools (such as Tableau or Power BI)
Preferred Qualifications
Master's or advanced degree from an accredited institution, with coursework and emphasis in a quantitative area of study
Additional knowledge, experience or training in statistical modeling, inferential statistics, SPSS, or web development software
One year of experience in an institutional research environment
Experience with reporting tools or similar technology (WebFOCUS, IBM Cognos, Power BI, etc.)
Experience with ODS or other database warehouse
Experience with data governance principles and procedures
