The Analyst will provide the department strong analytical skills and is responsible for internal and external reporting. Position activities are primarily rooted in basic research oriented behaviors including sampled review and data collection, basic measurement such as aggregation and summarization of data and general statistics and document practices. The analyst will also be involved in multiple projects.

Required Criteria

  • Bachelors Degree

  • Minimum of one to three years of related experience

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word

Given the growing strategic importance of data, AlphaWise a key enabler to both the "Offense" (generating new commercial opportunities) and "Defense" (ensuring proper data use and risk management). The group is seeking a Data Analytics Analyst with experience in financial services/banking to create data related offerings. The role is dynamic, fast paced and interacts with multiple stakeholders. The Data Analytics Analyst will work closely with SMEs and product owners analyze and transform data, establish data quality standards, look for efficiencies in the business process and work with our technology partners to implement solutions: * Partner with product teams and quants/data scientists to create and enhance Research data products * Analyze data inputs and outputs for new products, develop transformation scripts, remediate quality issues, and work collaboratively with SMEs to implement scalable data products * Guide and implement strategic and tactical approaches to support data analysis activities through collaboration with technology teams * Provide financial services expertise to product teams * Create efficient and reusable code meant for the improvement, manipulation, and analysis of data * Create and maintain standards and documentation (mapping, rulebooks, etc.) * Work with off-shore team members on product development efforts Technical Qualifications * Experience with using data profiling tools to query the data, identify anomalies, gaps and issues * Experience in Python and/or R (other modern programming languages such as Perl, JavaScript are a bonus) and statistical packages * Experience configuring technical architecture to support data analysis activities * Experience in data quality management * Experience in working with data in various forms (data warehouses/SQL, unstructured data environments/PIG,HIVE, Impala) * General awareness of data management practices, emerging trends, and issues Required * Bachelor's Degree from an accredited higher learning institution required or equivalent combination of experience and education (preferred area of study: Economics, Financial Engineering, Quantitative Analysis, Business, Mathematics, Computer Science or other similar fields) * 3-5 years experience as a data analyst, data scientist, or related quantitative * 2 years experience in banking/financial services * Strong analytical and reasoning skills; able to decompose complex problems and projects into manageable pieces; comfortable suggesting and presenting solutions * Comfortable working in a large organization with a broad set of stakeholders across various functions (i.e., Business, IT, Operations) * Excellent verbal and written communication skills presenting complex analytical results to technical and non-technical audiences * Ability and desire to work in a start-up paced environment and culture Morgan Stanley New York NY
